| My 24v older Motor Guide causes interference in my newer Eagle 640c. So far I have added an additional ground from the trolling motor batteries to the main battery and insulated the transducer from the motor housing with 1/8" rubber under the clamp. Any other ideas?

Location: Stevens Point, WI | So, your trolling motor batteries are connected to your main battery somehow? Am I reading that right? If so, you just want your trolling motor batteries powering your trolling motor, if you have a locator hooked to those in any way, you'll get interference just about every time. |

| My minnkota does it too. I hooked up my locator to a vexilar battery and it still gets interference. It finally went away when I moved the ducer and unit about 3 feet from the trolling motor. I believe my problem is a magnetic field created by the trolling motor. |

| I think the problem could be in your trolling motor, there should be a ground from inside the head to the motor housing at the bottom. I would contact your local dealer to make sure there is a ground on a Motor Guide. I would not try to install a ground on a Motor Guide, the magnets are very tricky and you better know what you are doing. On the Minn Kota's, there should be a 3rd wire connected to the directional light and it will go down the shaft and be grounded to the motor housing, if you don't see this wire, contact your local repair shop and they can install the ground. Another thing to check is the shaft that comes out of the motor, pull the blade and hold a pencil next to the end and power the motor. The pencil will tell you if it's bent. This can also create interfearence issues.
If you are mounting a tranducer on the Trolling Motor, for Lowrance I use a skimmer ducer with the metal pracket (same that goes on the back of the boat), take a pliers and bend the tabs in a bit, you can put a standard hose clamp around it. This will give you some seperation form the motor and will help reduce interference.
This is a common problem and most trolling motor service tech's know how to correct it.
