| grease (g) on gears (g) only |

| Drag washers should be clean and dry -- no oil, no grease. If it's got teeth it should get a marginal amount of grease -- too much will just wind up all over. Everything else should get a tiny drop of oil. Again -- not too much. |

Location: Jackson , New Jersey | If the drag washers are Carbontex type washers they need to have a small amount of either Shimano drag star grease or Cal's drag grease installed in order for them to preform smoothly it all depends on the type of drag system you have ,dry or wet. I have updated all my Bass reels to Carbontex drags they are really smooth. |

| Rule of thumb-
Greese on gears
Oil on shafts
I make sure my drag washers are free of both of these lubricants when I tear my reels apart. I carefully wipe down the washers with a paper towel. When you do this, you will find you don't have to lock the drag down as tight. The washers will dig better on the drag spindle.
