Location: brooklyn park mn | usually fish part of eagle lake that has stained water(osborne bay) and have done well. am going to fish up towards temple bay lodge area and was wondering how much i need to adapt my presentations/stategdy on fishing shallow vs deep or both. looking to get some advise from musky people that know more about clear and semi clear water. i usually fish lake of the woods and stained waters.

| Majority of the waters I fish are very clear and I have been struggling with spooking fish at boat side for awhile. So far everyone has recommended pretty much keeping your baits running deep when at boatside like when you see following fish to submerge your rod way down and keep the attention of the fish towards the bait and not yourself making alot of movements. I suppose it all depends on how clear the water really is on how deep to keep it! I cant wait to try myself, good luck to you! |

| On super clear water, I really like topwater. The clarity becomes a non-issue even with following fish...Also this idea over deep water is great as well....BR |

| Might be helpful to tell us what time of year you are talking about...
I'm no expert on Eagle, but I do fish the areas you are referring to. As far as the Temple Bay and Eagle Bay areas, I tend to stick with more natural colors. The times I've fished down around Osbourne the water was much more stained, like fishing a whole other lake. Where I might use a lot of brown and yellow, copper or brass blades, greens and chartreuse, down in in that area, those same presentations would be more black, white, walleye or perch colored up near Temple Bay.
As far as moving deeper in clear water? Generally speaking I've had the best results in clear water fishing depper and in low light conditions. Stained water is a mix, and in really really dark water I've found all species of fish up hugging the shoreline in water you'd never expect to hold fish, even on the brightest days.

Location: brooklyn park mn | joe, going in july. my best has been 2 48.5 inch muskys. last years was fatter. dad got a 49.5 inch last year . seems like the fish move around alot so i usually hit my milkrun and fish fast to see if fish are on.. If fish are on they usually strike and not follow. wierd but most of your best days are nothing but slow 2 hour windows followed by a fish that mauls a bait. Up real shallow in osborne, and double 10's will usually find em and i would come back with jackpot or 10 jake and rip it in area of fish at prime times. Pickeral bay has some real nice spots. If you make it up toward the bridge area it gets a little clearer and deeper but still have caught fish close to structure. Randy will point u in right direction if you ask him as well.
How clear is the water near temple bay lodge area and colmans reef areas? GIN? clear? semi clear/semi stained/? thanks jim |
