Hi Joe. My name is Matt Wallace. First of all I wanted to tell you how much I have appreciated learning from you over the years. I have been a fan since I was quite young The reason for this letter is that my family and I are trying to raise the money needed to build a playroom at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin for the siblings of critically ill children in memory of our 14 month old daughter who died 9 months ago. The youngest of our four children, Nevaeh Rae Wallace, was born on Valentine’s Day of 2008 with a severe heart defect. Due to the severity of this defect, like many other children from the Madison area she would have to be treated in Milwaukee. She underwent two major open heart surgeries in her first four months of life. We spent over 35 days in the hospital with her and during the time our other three kids would come to see her they would get scared, confused and just plain bored. The only place for them to go was a waiting room outside of the ICU. It is hard enough for us as the parents to try and make sense out of all these sick kids, I can't imagine what went through these little ones heads having to experience the ICU for the first time with their little sister in it. On April 26th of this year at 14 months old Nevaeh went into cardiac arrest and died in my wife's arms at our home in Stoughton. As we are trying to cope with our loss we have come up with a way we could help remember her and help others at the same time. We call it the Playroom Of Hope. This room will be over 1,100 sq ft and will have a full time Child Life Specialist to counsel, teach, do arts and crafts, and whatever else they can be used for. It will have everything from dolls to video games and everything in between. So far we have raised over $62,000 in just over 5 months. The total needed to build this room is $300,000. Clear Channel outdoor advertising has given us space on their outdoor digital billboards which you may have seen around the Milwaukee area. WTMJ did a story on the playroom and our story recently as well.
We are in the process of planning a huge fundraising event on her 2nd birthday which is Valentines Day. We have been given a building with two gymnasium’s. In one gym we will have 4 bounce houses that have been donated by an area business and we will also have many kids carnival games. In the other we will be having a huge silent auction. Being that I am an avid fisherman, I am trying to find anything fishing related that could be donated to this auction and was wondering if you would be willing to help us out? I really am trying to draw in more of the sportsman to this event as well. So far as far as fishing items we have a brand new locator, an ultra- lite rod and reel combo, and two guided trips.
