They continually freeze as I try to watch them. I am sure it is probably my computer. I can rewind to the start and it will play just beyond the last place it froze. Makes watching an episode an all day affair, with lots of repeat footage.

Posts: 501 Location: Norway | I think its their servers streaming that sucks, I have the same problem, freezes every 20 sec or so. I usually just start it 1-2 hours before I can watch it. Like now, making dinner and when Im done eating and the kid is in bed, I move the cursor back and watch the show. The freeze happens on all computers Ive tried to watch the show on, and even in the morning, when you over the pond is a sleep, it still struggles, so I dont think its related to to many visitors... Cool show, none the less. Michael

Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Are these windows media files? I see they are zipped for download. So, I would guess these ARE NOT streams, these are downloads and the DL stalls are due to bandwidth constraints on the end and/or a low bandwidth connection between their server and the cloud. The green screen problem sounds like hardware/software acceleration. It could also be a color issue in need of YUV or RGB flip. These are settings in your Windows Media Player (WMP). If using WMP, look at your options for these adjustment under the performance tab. The seizing issue is strange to me, might be related to memory and the encoding profile of the video. If you haven't done so, instead of choosing "open", choose "save" instead. This will download the file locally and play from there. The seizing could be a buffer underrun due to a slow download speed. Instead download the entire thing to your local HD FIRST then try to play it. Another thing that might help. Try VLC media player instead. Its a free download and pretty forgiving. Better for somethings. It will also play FLV (flash video) files locally. I will try to download a file and have a look. These are just some guesses based on my support experience. I haven't tried the files myself. Jono Edited by Jono 1/20/2010 12:18 PM

But once downloaded I have no issues with freeze up or anything else. Aaron

Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Where are you guys seeing the streaming versions? I went here: http://www.keyesoutdoors.com/episodes.htm and only saw a few download episodes? I get the feeling I'm not seeing something on that website. Thanks, Jono

Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | OK, never mind, I see them now down farther on the list. FLV doesn't necessarily "stream", it can be "progressive download" which still means that you need to give it time for enough of it to download to keep the buffer full and avoid interruptions. That seems to be the case here as I cannot randomly access the episode, instead I have to wait for the frames between points a and b to be downloaded before I jump ahead. Tell tale sign of "progressive download". It's entirely possible that their server is not fast enough to keep up with the consumption rate of the video. I have no idea how the network is provisioned and managed but this could be part of the problem. Now, if someone is also on a slower connection, the problem gets worse. You can change your buffer setting on your flash player to cache more before playing. If you max it out and wait, the playback should be seamless.

Posts: 1243 Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | Bill, If you're talking about this year's episodes, I watched them with my VLC Media Player with no issues. So you're able to use something other than Quicktime. And the VLC Media Player is a free download. Aaron

Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Bill, I'm trying to download an episode right now. I'll try to help you. I did notice that the download data rate is about 64 Kbps which is really slow. If this is typical, it explains the issues for those trying to watch them directly off their server as a progressive download. I checked my speed and found that I am going at approx 5Mb/s which is nearly the equivalent of 4 T1s. Yes, I am wired and have a robust internet connection. That leads me to believe that their server and/or connection to the cloud is small, and cannot keep up with requests to serve large files. Bill, you might be missing a codec to play these video files. What is the file format of the downloaded episodes? Again, I don't have the file yet so cannot say. I'll write back once I've had a look. Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Finally got the download. It's a MOV file which should play just fine in QT. The video is h.264 and audio is AAC both supported in QT. I played them on two different computers with older versions of QT (7.5.x). They also played fine in VLC media player. The progressive download episodes are using Flash video technology and explains why those work for you (other than the buffer underrun "seizing" issue). Different platform, different player, different technology. Bill, I think you have a hardware/software issue on the pc your are using. I'd make a copy of the episode and try it on other computers to see if the results are the same. I would check quick time's system requirements for the version you have installed and make sure your pc meets those system requirements. Wish I could see what you see on your PC. Not sure what else to tell you but if you have a really old computer, you might be out of spec. Jono
