I thought I would spark some conversation here to cure some cabin fever.

What would you do if you WITHOUT DOUBT landed the state record musky? Keep it or release it? If you kept it do you think you would be chastised by other anglers?

I would keep it for sure but thats me. Unless I was in someones boat who said they didnt want me to keep it. Im sure some would frown upon keeping it but for the most part I think people think its up to the angler.

I would pull the plug on my boat, allowing it to fill with water, and slowly chug back to the landing. Once there I would load the boat and finish filling with water. Then, on the way to the DNR service station I would call a business that sells pools. Anybody want to see the LIVE world record? $20.00 Win/win!

The I hope you get it, Crawdad, and we ca get that fake Johnson fish out of the picture once and for all.

I'd have to let it go, because I'm too cheap to have it mounted anyway.

I would thump it, like I have said in other posts, kill it and stop the BS once and for all. Of course, every wacko would then post about how it should have been released.

I would carefully measure the fish in every dimension possible, weight, length girth, etc. Lots of pictures of course. Then I would let it go and not let anyone know about. It would be mean more to me as an personal accomplishment rather then something I want to recognized for. Then I would have that memory to live life and I would smile every time I thought about it.

I'd shoot it, disqualifying it from record status, just so we could keep posting about Cal and Spray year in and year out. I'd also fillet it up and have a good ole' fish fry.

OK, if I had ANY DOUBT AT ALL I'd CPR for sure.

But if I had no doubt at all about it it would go with me to the scales. I'd have to catch one helluva muskie to bust the records in the areas I fish.

Wisconsin DNR lists the 69lb Louie Spray fish
Illinois has a 37 lb fish listed out of Shabbonna.
Ontario has a 65 lb record.

Just think how cool it would be to keep a fish of that magnitude alive. Contact the DNR have them investigate the fish determine weight and off she goes. This is what I would do.

yah would be cool to somehow keep it alive in a cradle or something and have someone bring out a empty stock tank and fill it with water and get the dnr out there with a certified scale and release her!

Thump it. No doubt about it. You put a world record musky in someone's hands and they will do the same thing.

Shoot it in the head with a .22
Take some really bad photos
Weigh it at Pick N Save in the produce area
Have it mounted
Burn it up in a bar
Profit.

I would CPR the fish if it was only a MN state record. So many people have caught fish bigger that killing a Muskie just to beat the 54 lb MN state record seems a little silly. OK, someone was the 15th person to catch a fish bigger and then killed it. Big accomplishment there... Not! I think it would be better to let it grow so maybe it can become a world record.

A certain world record? A fish over 70 lbs? That is another story. I have changed my mind on this one and would keep a Muskie that was a new world record. If nothing else, it would shut up all the world record debates and get people talking about more important stuff - like football or baseball.

funny one muskie metal
wis state record gets clubbed, but how much weight would the fish lose in transport trying to find a certified scale. It would suck to keep a fish soo close to the record and to find out it`s just shy of it.
