The winter time thread made me think about fishing in December this year in southern Wisconsin. Having not done it how should you go about fishing this new "late" season? Or is December just a colder version of November....just curious if you will change tactics.

I doubt I change a thing..the fish don't know it's December and not Nov...last year we had ice right around Thanksgiving..fish were caught both shallow and deep and really the tactics I'm going to use aren't going to change...suckers, dawgs, cranks, bucktails..

It should be intresting. I would think that if we got some weather like we had in Nov. it maybe good. But what do you if the water temp drops big time? Like into the 30s?

Slow trolling crankbaits would be my option..does this mean christmas morning musky fishing???That could spell trouble.

What [decent] musky water is still without ice in mid-late December. I'm not routinely in that part of the state during December. Will we have to stick to rivers or do the lakes freeze up later??

ShaneW drill baby drill!!!!

Naw it looks lie we'll be able to fish for a while into Dec. The water temps were in the mid-40s last Sunday on Wingra. With no freezing next week in sight for the next week, I would think we would be able to fish a couple of weeks into the month on the bigger lakes.

I should add that not too many have fished into Dec and not for muskies here in S WI. I know a couple of yrs ago guys were fishing pike in Mendota well into the month of Dec.

Sorry I can't be of help. Maybe those who do can post on the Cap City web site and keep everyone updated??

Leaving for Okauchee in about 4 hours... I'll let you know how I feel and what I think I know about late Nov/December fishing at the end of the day.

They call it Madtown for a reason. They just needed to troll a krusher behind them and it is the ultimate sport, muskysurfing.

Sterling Lake just south of the border will hopefully be ice free for the next few weeks. I can't wait to get out there when it's a ghost town to stirrr up some jaws
