Hi, folks. I just thought I'd introduce myself. I live in Maryland an am very jealous of you folks from the Midwest with all of your great musky waters. I fish the Potomac river which has a few muskies. I just started last summer. Just last month I bought a new river boat...a 1760 with a 90/65 jet and a forward console. The great thing about this boat is that the first fish caught from it was my largest musky to date...a 43" 21-lb fish.

The boat is custom made. It has 1/2" UHMW on the bottom, just in case you hit a rock.

I plan on branching out and exploring some good spots on the Susquehanna river in eastern Pennsylvania. Perhaps someday I'll take a trip up to the Midwest.

Welcome aboard. We have folks from across the range of the Muskie and Pike anglers from all over the world visiting every day, so no question should go unanswered. Nice rig!

Your boat is very nice. It looks like a prop driven motor. Are you fisning #*^@ed pools? Or wild river? I don't know the Potomac but my one experience on a wild section of the Allegheny (PA) shook me. Prop banging bottom in every riffle/run.

One of your questions was answered already in the original post. Just a FYI.

I fish above one of the dams since they do follow a late Fall pattern and end up on a couple spots there, but I have the jet outboard for other spots (real river).

Hey Ed!

This is the angler formerly known as Ratherfish (Peter). Part of the reason I left that other forum is that in our few, small Maryland waters, a spot or fish population is easily destroyed. For example, both the WSSC reservoirs are 800-900 acres and are easily accessible to millions of folks in the Balt/Wash corridor. One day I showed off a big ole WSSC Striper to two shore fishermen. Well, "monkey see, monkey do". Next day, both of those guys (who didn't know each other previously) were standing 10 feet apart, casting the same bait I used to the hot spot. Geez! This is even a problem on big waters; my Georgian Bay guide was extremely secretive. However, on an 800 acre lake in the Balt/Wash corridor it is much worse.

I've received counter-intel briefs on the Chinese espionage methods including the 'ant gathering' technique. They gather as many tidbits of unclassified or seemingly innoccuous information as possible and assemble them back at the base to get a relatively complete picture. For example, I looked at Google Earth and surmise that you launched from the Four Locks ramp above Dam 5. You already posted your lure. See.

Well big deal and who cares? Many may laugh at how secretive I am, however, once I got to a certain point, I knew I was a top-notch angler, and didn't need to show off anymore. What is to be gained? All it does is put more pressure on your favorite spot, perhaps with your favorite lure. Maybe you have a bigger heart than me and don't mind sharing spots and fish. (but will Mr. 'monkey-see monkey do' toss it back? unfortunately probably not.)

anywho, thanks for posting! best of luck.

ps. I can still read the old forum and see pics by looking at Google cached pages so I've been keeping up. (there is usually a couple week delay though)

Peter:

Well, you didn't have to post all of my info.

Anyway, yeah, I even blurred out the background on the 17 lb fish from last year. I usually don't post all the muskies, but this one was special.

How come I can't PM you??

Ed,

Well a talented fisherman like you is obviously more than a launch point and a lure.
I joined as curdmudgeon. I'd really enjoy hearing from you via PM (or similar feature on this site). The reservoirs have been turning over so the bite is off and I've been thinking about getting back to the Potomac for some moosky fishing.
