For those of you who answered my questions, I thank you, I could not have done this without your help. For those of you looking to do this, please ask questions and maybe I can help. I started this project during the winter of 2009 and finished in July of 2009. This the biggest little boat I have ever fished out of and the biggest little project I have ever completed. This was a complete rebuild from the transom up to, but not including the front deck.

Thank you again, Mike Blaise.

I think this looks really cool. Thinking about doing the same thing this winter with my bro's boat. BG

Wow! You did a great job on the rebuild. You've created 5x more storage. I rebuilt the floor and one bunk in my Tuffy Esox Ltd, so I know how much work went into this project.

How did you add foam back to the bunks? It looks like the entire length of the bunks are storage compartments now. Are you worried about the lack of flotation foam in your boat? I know my bunks were full of foam, and the floor had hardly any. When I redid my boat, I filled the floor and bunks with foam. Now I wish I would have created more storage compartments.

Setme31,

I probably do not have the same amount of flotation in the boat after the rebuild. I did the floor a bit different, my new floor extends across the full width of the boat. The original floor was built between the two vertical plywood pieces. The new floor allows for a flat bottom in all of the storage lockers. I left one 1" (sealed with resin) holes in floor so I was able to fill the flotation foam through the holes after I had the floor in place.

I would not recommend this method as I am not sure if all of the area under the floor is filled with foam. If I were to do it again (I'm looking for an Esox Mag to rebuild) I would fill the bottom with foam first, then trim the foam and install the floor second. Live and learn.

Let me know if you have any other questions, Mike.

P.S. I grew up in Prospect Heights, probably around the corner from you, it's such a small world!

Just an observation about foaming the boat; most flotation foam will eventually soak up water and get VERY heavy as a result if it's not sealed off from bilge water. If your boat rebuild allows water to sit in contact with the foam, make sure every time you take the boat out of the water you pull the plug and elevate the bow.

Steve,

What you are saying makes sense, but how do I remove the water from the other areas of the hull that don't have access to the bilge? For example, the sponsons. Also, how do I keep from allowing water into these area in the fist place?

Sealed bulkheads. The foam should be bulkheaded off, most simply put.
