I am back, one week staying in the same cabin with Worrall is enough....no actually my partner Byran Schaeffer, his father in law pasted on so we had to cut the trip short one day. Worrall is still up there, and was strugling as I left him on his last day to do battle, we will see how how his last day was.

Tough week, Canada is way behind at least in this area. Weeds are there but not thick, and spawn was only two weeks ago from the late spring and the big girls were not ready to eat.

We did move a 55", 50" and I lost a 47" class fish and did move two 45" fish also, size of course is the best of our knowledge...hahahaha...so I might be off a inch or two..LOL....but good fish anyway![:)] NOTE: There backs were out of the water..so we could see the length very easy.

I trolled up a 31" on a Slammer Deep Diver, trolling Richard Collins style (right Richard...big fish pattern..hahaha) and then popped a 37" on a Musky Candy spinnerbait. My Partner got a 38" on a Undertaker on the same spot Worrall moved the 55" on an Undertaker. I really felt sorry for that fish on Bryan's hookset...LOL[;)]

Otherwise we moved 3 to 4 fish a day and most 40" and under.

Excuses"[] (The WABIGOON TOP TEN)

1)Rained Cats and dogs the first day there
2)Cold wind blowning 25mph at 50 degrees
3)Weather then stablized...but the fish did not know what to do with the stable weather.
4)Fish just spawned two weeks ago 6/15 or so
5)Late spring...Ice went out really late and it snowed 5/25
6)High water and muddy in many areas
7)Water dropped two feet during the week
8)Wind blew every direction...sometimes three in one day.
9)fish only moved on average from 6 to 7:30pm each night
10)Worrall's cooking made me gasy and I could not concentrate.[]

We did catch Walleyes(very easy) and Pike..up to 38"

So all in all it was a fun relaxing trip and Indian point Camp was a great lodge to stay at. I just wish I would have booked it right around mother nature, because the time period was Worrall's best time slot over the last twenty years...Go figure..LOL[]

One thing about the Goon....You dont have to bring cream for your coffee.

Note the water color[;)]...And that was when it was the cleanest....Most of the time twelve feet from shore it was solid creamy milk from the clay banks. You could not see a orange spinnerbait two inches down. But if you got on the right side of the structure the water would have one foot visabilty like in this photo.

Jason, welcome to Canada Lmao

Been there done that but actualy our water has cleared and lowered and the fish are on and have been on for over a week yet.

Yesterday after taking 4 days off the water to clear my coughing problems ( 2 weeks now )I decided to go out from 10 to 2 to catch my 5 yr old son a small fish he can reel in all alone. I did very well it took me less then 1 hour to get him hooked up with this little muskie, man I was impressed with myself at the fact it was a muskie and not a pike. [:p]

After meeting up and chatting with some IL guys for some 30 minutes, now we drifted down river quite a bit so I decided to troll the weeds in front of us and in less then 3 minutes we got a good hit. After asking my son if he wanted to try and reel in a big one he said no. Good thing as this fish put up a great fight and measured in at 46x18.

We managed another small one for the little guy but this time it was a pike.

So Jason even my small fish patterns get me big fish, must be luck. [:p]

Here is the little guy with his 3rd fish and this one he reeled in all by himself as the other two were 47 and 48.5 x 24.5 inches his last time out last fall actualy. He's a lucky little bugger with 3 fish in his last 8 hours on the water, a dink and a 46 and 48.5 LOL

Richard....do you fish outside or inside the weedlines?

Jason, I do both but mosly on the outside. That 46 incher came on the outside rod as I was trolling in waters 8' to 10' deep just a few feet ( 2 to 5 ) from the weedline. That tells me that fish was crusing outside the weeds and most fish caught on the inside rod will come out of the weeds or holding tight to them. One thing is these weeds were reeds growing in 2' of water with a couple of areas with cabbage and coontail mixed in with lilly pads. So the dropoff has to be a great factor on the fish been there.

I normaly will only cast the inside weededge as most times it is in really shallow water like 3' or so. A lot of the major weeds I fish only have a deep weededge as they are growing on large humps or flats so they are surounded by deeper waters. I rarely ever fish far from deeper waters ( 10' to 20' ).

Hope you can make it out here someday to see we have it all. [:p]

Jason,
The fish finally turned on Friday at about 3 PM in the Contact Bay area. We raised three on a break just 100 feet long, biggest about 48 or so, smallest about 46. Jack missed two of them, just bad luck. We then went to the Pen, nothing there. Finished in Heartbreak Bay, held true to it's name as Jack lost another. I just plain couldn't get bit, as second bait through was getting the action.

The weather was exactly as you described, with all 4 wind directions during the day, up to 25 MPH. Temps were about 88 degrees, no clouds.

I think we missed the primo timing by about two weeks.

Had a GREAT trip, caught dozens of big pike. I actually NEVER had a muskie hit that got stuck well enough to say I 'lost' a ski. Jack had all the muskie action, LOTS of it.

I did see the ONE...she came up on an Undertaker, and blasted out of the water totally missing the lure ( while it was sitting nearly still after a twitch, stupid fish!!!). Unfortunately, the fish was on a deep currentbreak area, and we couldn't locate her the rest of the trip. Brian did get his fish there looking for her, so it wasn't a total washout.

By the way, Jason is NATURALLY Gassy. Brian was designing an adapter for the Mercury Optimax 225 for methane, figured it would save them about 50% on the fuel bill.[]

Hmmmmm.....A methane powered opti...

That would require high doses of Bud Light in the cabin to keep the rig going. Sounds like a good deal all around.

Actually, 6 days on the water I burned 65 gallens of gas...I would say my Opti does not need much help at all.

We got back from the 'goon on last Fri. Lots of fish up but couldn't make them all bite. We did get a 42, 30ish and a 41.5. I lost a couple with the biggest around 45 but no real hog sightings on the east side. Fish wanted to come up late and fast and surprised you most of the time(lure was almost out of water[:(] ). Her is the skinny 42". Wifes fatter 41.5 to follow.

later,
toddb

Every once in awhile my Buddy Jack sticks one. He got this pig with Keith and I in 98. That was a heck of a week, with 12 in the boat. The other pic is my friend from the 80's, Dave, with a Western Arm Goon muskie.
