Posts: 2024 | We have an Eagle fishfinder for our project boat and need to run the cord (and transducer) down the transom. My concern is, without anything holding the cord against the transom, that something could get between the cord and transom and rip the whole thing off, or at least damage the cord. I am envisioning using those things that tack TV cables against the base of walls, but the ones I'm familiar with have nails that you hammer into the wall (obviously won't work in an aluminum boat). Thanks!

What I did on the Minnkota water temp gauge I installed was to lay a thick bead of marine silicone ADHESIVE sealant over the cord all the way down the transom. This way I didn't have to drill a hole, and can remove it cleanly if I ever want to. But wait....it's for a transducer....IMO you'll have to screw it in to keep it stable.

The plastic ones (i just got some) came 24 for 1.99 from Farm and Fleet here in decatur for plastic ones. you could also just use a blob of silicone every 4 or 5" and allow it to hold the cord. either will work. if you want I can send you some if you pm me your addy.

Posts: 2024 | Thanks guys! I went out to the local hardwear store and tried finding something that actually screwed in and didn't need to be hammered in. I came up empty handed. I found some metal clamps that had holes on either side to screw into the metal which I went ahead and bought. However, now the unit seems to be missing so the project is on hold until I can track it down.

If you clean the hull well with alcohol then stick the pads on they are stuck there well. A couple of small zip ties and the cable is held in place tight and there's no holes in the hull to worry about. I've used them on two boats of my own now and 2 that belong to others and haven't a problem. Good Fishin' Tim Edited by Roughneck1860 10/4/2009 5:05 PM

Posts: 2024 | Hmmm. I like that idea, Tim. Do you happen to have a picture of the little pads you're talking about? The less holes we have to drill, the better.

Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | I've been using these cable clamps for rigging my transducer cords on my last couple of boats and have also used these on numerous other rigs I've helped rig. A 1/4 or 1/2 inch stainless steel screw dipped in marine silicone will hold these. Here are a few pictures, clamps can be found at Fleet Farm in the electrical isle.
