So for this semester at school I have to take our Excel course and let me tell you it's a dirty one. Not hard, just tedious. So to liven it up a bit I began to chart my musky journal in excel format and came up with some numbers that I found interesting. I record several things when I'm fishing; wind, direction, water temp, air temp, cloud cover. All that stuff. I also record follows, If the fish struck or not and if a fish was landed as well as what baits the fish were after. After some wasted time in the library I have come up with some numbers.

-I have fished 43 seperate times this year.
-I have fished for 162 hours and 30 minutes.
-I Have raised 70 muskies for a ratio of 2 hours and 19 minutes to each raise.
-I have had 30 fish strike for a ratio of 5 hours and 25 minutes for each strike.
-I have caught 14 muskies for a ratio of 11 hours and 36 minutes for each musky caught.

and who says you don't learn anything in college

To think every 11 hours and 36 minutes you could be catching a fish, instead of being in class

I have 57 outings in approx 241 hours with 25 muskies boated (5 were short ones) between my boat partners and I. Overall I think we had action from 80 muskies. Hopefully I'll get a few more fish in before the ice comes.

Action by lure type;

Bucktails 36
Topwater 39
Crankbaits 3
Jerks 1
Spinnerbaits 5

I actually like to keep track of stats like this, it really puts things into perspective on where/when you should be fishing...how your trips went etc...this year a fish has been in the net every 4.5 hours on the water, over 100 in net... action from 573..not quite as good as last year but I'll take it with the slow start to the season I had...

Haha good post StCroix!

I'm also a college student/avid musky angler. My biggest choice when I got out the military was trying to decide where the closest university was to a good musky fishery. I landed at SIU Carbondale, couldn't be happier.

It works out pretty nicely, but sometimes I must admit I'd rather be on the water. My dad once recommended that I take my books with me out on the lake when I fish! Didn't think that would work out to well, lol. But lets be real, we got the good life!!!

BNelson,
That means you raise a fish almost every 45 min. and have put in over 450 hours this year. I wish I could put up numbers like that. I have been paying attention to how many quality fish you are able to photo each year and I must say it is absolutely impressive. You don't boast or brag either, but deffinately know your stuff. Do you guide, which gives you so much time on the water or do you spend a lot of time at night (it appears that way from most of your pics) I dont know where you live but it seems like you deffinatley hit a lot of different lakes and are successful on a lot of them. Let me know anytime you are around the metro MN, it would be awesome to net a few of your fish for you and obviously learn a ton. Unfortunetly, this year has been brutal for me. I don't no if it's fish conditoning or the bait piles Im graphing but it has been a tough season. Maybe I just need more time on the water. Im also TigerMusky on MuskyLink. Good luck the rest of the fall.

Just make sure you have 2 different colums "actual cost" and "cost I tell my wife"

Hahahahahah. That's awesome. I was doing up a spreadsheet with my inventory of "stuff", then realized that it was not a good thing to do when the wife was in the room.

Note to those that do an inventory as such, password protect the spreadsheet!

Haha good post StCroix!
If you went to school in madison you could take your books on the water with you,put 2-3 suckers out, drift, study, and then get ready to set the hook when that clicker goes off.that would be a great way to study.

watch it Derek!
No I don't guide Aaron. I'll let the pro's do that ! ; ) I live in Madison WI..10 minutes from the garage to launch...with this being about the 23rd week to the season I have averaged about 20 hours per 7 days for the season..which is pretty easy to do living so close to good lakes...I also save my vacation up for summer trips to MN...and sleep very little on those trips.
and for the guy that tried to rip on me Friday.... less than 10% of my hours and fish have come on Winga ding as you put it...there are many guys that put more and bigger fish in the boat than I do...luckily I know some of them ...I pretty much have no clue what I'm doing out there.... ; )
