Location: Kronenwetter, WI | What would the difference be to an angler between a sonar unit with 4000 watts peak to peak VS a unit with 8000 watts peak to peak.
I will be using in water generally less than 50 FOW. One article said the wattage becomes more significant when fishing deep saltwater type applications, so maybe there is not much diff between 4K and 8K for shallow, inland waters?

Location: Stevens Point, WI | That's correct. Almost all the big units that are made today are made for Saltwater applications, they've just found their way into the freshwater market. The Lowrance HDS units are capable of reading to depths of 5000 feet. The more power the unit has, the better the detail in deeper water the unit will pick up. |

| Think about it this way, Vexilar flashers only have 400 watts peak to peak and they are the most popular units for ice fishing out there. They also were widely used by open water anglers before the big screen/chipable units were around. That is really all you need for power in any type of fresh water. |
