Subject: Creek Chub Pikie question

Can anyone help me getting a original wooden strait Creek Chub Pikie? I would really like to have one since it's one of the earliest muskybaits around just like suick's and so. It gives me a real kick catching a big pike on unusual lures. I recently bought one of ebay but it was a plastic one. Even though the seller told me it was a wooden one. So that didn't work out! Who can help me getting a good wooden one?

Since I live in The Netherlands it's difficult getting one. I wille pay a normal price and costs for sending it to the Netherlands.

Who can help me.

Mark

I think this bait doesn't have the through wire system but screw in eyes. Who helps me getting a good one? I don't care for color. But it must be in a fishable state and strait running.

A Muskiefirst user (fishingfiend) posted one for sale here a couple of weeks ago! Asking $5.00US for it. You could try to contact him and propose a deal.

It sounds like you want an original Creek Chub. I think your best chance is to try Ebay again or keep monitoring the buy/sell pages here for one that may show up in the future. I have bought a couple of jointed ones on Ebay in the past. Maybe I was lucky, as I got 2 wood ones.

Maybe try looking for one that is scratched and the bare wood is visible in the photo. Then you would have some confidence that you are getting a wood lure.

Markymark,
HAHAHA.......Send my greetings to the Funky Bunch!!

Relax your requirements! The pike won't check which model number before they bite it! Get one that is 4-8 inches long. The largest are the versions they made for saltwater striper anglers. I think they were called "striper pikies". But.. there are many other models (smaller sizes) that would catch pike for you too.

You must educate yourself a little for what you seek. Not sure, but I think Pikies with larger model numbers have larger body sizes. I think they went into the 5000s for the striper pikies. The wooden lures went out of production long ago; maybe 25 years ago?

You're trying to buy a lure in a market with many collectors. If you want to remain very specific about what you buy, it may be best for you to buy a book about antique lure collecting. It would be formatted like a directory with: manufacturers, model numbers, descriptions or photos, and typical market prices for the date of publication.

Frequently on Ebay the sellers put a ruler next to the lure in the photo, so you have a reference about its size.

Good luck with your search. Be careful, you may become an antique lure collector before you know it!

Search for the user "Fishalot" he's a buddy of mine and PM him. He has a Pikie collection worth more than a lot of peoples boats on this site. He's broken it up now and sold some off but I know he has some non-collector models that I'm sure he would part with. He'd also be able to answer all your Pikie questions if you have any. I have a few straight Pikies but won't be parting with them any time soon.......they catch too many fish.

Good Luck
Tim

Look for striped bass lure shops on the web. Can get new wooden CCPs and a couple of hundred similar alternatives. Those Cape Cod bass seem to like that style of bait.
