I have a Abu Garcia Record reel that isn't level winding the line. The level of the line on the spool is considerably off from one side of the spool to the other.
Is there a adjustment that can be made, or is it warranty time?
I must say the last couple of garcia's I have owned are not the quality they used to be.

Need to replace the pawl. Get one from abu parts or a local reel repair store. There is a screw on bottom of level wind you remove to take out the pawl and replace. No big deal. Happens on occassion.

muskyfreq,

It is possible that the pawl is worn. It is advisable to change the pawl and worm gear at the same time, as they wear together. It's also possible that it's just gooped up, or even as simple as the pawl cap being loose. Here is what I would do:

1. Order a new pawl and worm gear (you'll need them eventually anyway)
2. Take yours apart and clean them both well, reassemble, and oil.
3. If that doesn't work, flip the pawl 180 degrees

Chances are, they are starting to wear, but sometimes you can clean them and/or flip as described above, and keep them working for a while.

The above advice is good if there is a problem with the pawl or level wind but sometimes it actually happens from reeling the reel in while it is tipped on it's side, then gravity piles line on one side more than the other. Watch the level wind, if it isn't getting caught anywhere it's probably the way you are holding the reel.
