Posts: 392 Location: lake x...where the hell is it? | i went fishing last night on monona, part of the mad chain and i caught a stick that broke off a tree that is out there somewhere. then i caught a chevy hub cap on the next cast and about 10 cast later a condom wrapper. over the years we have caught ALOT of crap out of monona including a sofa cushin, panties, hats, shirts and plastic bags. we averge 3 bags a day on monona, from garbage bags to wal-mart bags we catch them all. it is crazy how much crap we catch. i would love hear about anyone else that gets stuff like this alot and whats the crazest thing you have ever caught? i am also wondering if muskies inc. does anything to help clean the lakes, cause i am thinking about joining but want to know if they do anything for the lakes. other then stocking them. monona really needs some help. Posts: 2024 | A lot of clubs do lake clean-ups. It's a great and relatively easy way to give back to the community and the resource. If your nearby club doesn't do one on a particular lake I'd be willing to bet they would be appreciative of someone spearheading an effort to get one started (i.e, you on Monona).

Posts: 723 | we fish GB, you wouldnt believe the stuff out there, no doubt, condoms, seen them a few times. I know some guys that have caught bikes, buckets, my buddy (no lie) pulled up a boat battery! spiderwire stealth is some tough stuff!!!! seen a coffee pot floating down river one day, a construction barrell, snagged someones drift sock trolling, that was a nightmare, it was full of mud, creatures, and stunk to high heaven, ick!!! needless to say we cut the cord on that one, it was not coming in my boat. i hooked into a rather nice jacket one year, thought it was the big one when the clicker went off! hehe I know of another fella that snagged a mattress spring, yeah, we have some serious crap in our local waters!

Posts: 311 Location: Ontario | This is right up there with that tip from the other week about keying in on the spots just out from the condominiums (now condom wrappers haha). Not the spot off the big, bald rock wall or where the big pine tree is, the condos lol. I honestly have to tip my hat to some of you guys who diligently and enthusiastically fish some of those pieces of water down there. I think I'd learn golf.

Posts: 1243 Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | I would definitely encourage the local Muskies Inc chapter to help with local lake clean ups if they don't already do it. I'm sure if the idea is brought up, members will be more than happy to help out. The local chapter here that I am a member of does this on several lakes/landings. We've even been allowed to put up signs at the public accesses that we do this at. Kind of like an adopt-a-highway sign, only it's an adopt-a-landing. The sign can help remind others to keep the area clean. But it's also nice public PR for Muskies, Inc. as well.

Posts: 801 Location: Delavan, WI | I ve picked up all kinds of junk trolling - a steel schmidt can, t shirts and hats, and plastic bags, a christmas tree, oh yeah one good thing-snagged an anchor rope with an anchor attached on it a few years back thought it was a biggie- it looked like it was in the water mybe a couple days- no algae build up- still have it in the garage- maybe used it 2 or 3 times since- not a bad find I guess for all the other useless junk once in a while you get somethin useful!

Posts: 2893 Location: Yahara River Chain | I was out with a member on Monona a few yrs back and he hooked a Coleman lantern in the handle with a bull dawg. I couldn't believe it! It was not lit, but I think Lane has his story a little different.

| Fished 13 mile creek in West Virginia years ago. Hooked a baby doll. When I first saw it I wasn't sure that it was a doll. My heart nearly stopped. Never fished there again. | |||

Posts: 706 Location: Richland Center, WI. | Trolling on Lake Redstone a few years back and the clicker went off. After a short battle I pulled in a tow rope for skiing. Jigging on the Chippewa Flowage on the east side of the CC bridge, had a hit so put on the mighty hookset. That is when I noticed a fishing pole and lawn chair launch off a dock by a cabin on the south shore. Seems someone in the cabin cast a baited hook out and left the pole on the lawn chair and then left it unattended. I reeled in the pole and fished the lawn chair out of the water. Guy came out and I gave him his "tackle" back. Ken

Posts: 723 | I am usually always picking up cans n bottles in the water, My buddy JJ and I were out last night, sure as heck, a few floaters around, I just dont get it, do people think that its cool to chuck it over? Oh someone else will pick it up! I understand sometimes stuff flies out of your boat, but the more and more I see some of the people that use boat landings and lakes, it really makes me wonder, I dont think some of them respect anything at all. including laws on buzzing fisherman, slow no wake areas, but all that aside, people really need to take the extra effort to pick up garbage they see, make an example for others as well. yeah, leave the rubbers alone if you seem em floating,

Posts: 292 Location: Minneapolis | A couple years ago, I caught a chicken carcass (appeared to be raw) on Calhoun. After watching the video Hulbert posted, I clearly made a giant error in not casting it back out!
