Posts: 3508 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, Stearn's makes a decent rubber rain set (bibs and parka) that will do the job for low $$. The downfall of them is they don't breathe, so on warmer days, you may get a bit hot and sweaty. If you can spend a little more money, Frogg Toggs have received quite a bit of positive feedback. Higher yet would be something similar to Cabela's signature series, which is not gore-tex, but an equivalent type will set you back a bit more, and just like gore-tex, will need to be washed and then re-treated with a sealant of some sort...but they hold up well... I'd say, for a decent set at a good price, go with frogg toggs. Steve

Posts: 231 | I know you say for the "$$", but if you could save your money longer, I would buy Cabela's Guide Wear. It's not cheap, but will pay for itself in the long run. Not to mention Cabela's excellent customer sevice (warranty). I've had other cheaper rain gear that worked ok & did the job, but never seemed to hold up more then a couple years. I always felt wet/damp untill I purchased the Guide Wear. JMHO Chas

Posts: 1270 | If you buy cheap rain gear (Frog Togs included IMHO) plan on them being a one year use item at best. This being the case cheap rain gear will actually cost you more then just buying a good set right away and them lasting for years. Plus you will stay dryer in a good set. Frog Togs leak where preasure is put on them such as on your butt and your back when you are in a seat. Cabelas Guide Gear is hard to beat.

Posts: 582 | I would look at Columbia rain suits. i got one at a store called "sherpers" for about $35. It includes pants and jacket. I have had it for about 4 years and have worn it many times. It still functions like new. It also has many flaps that allow air to escape. Can't beat it for the price.

Posts: 139 | I picked up a light weight set from Gander this summer. It's called Red Ledger and the cost was around $50 for both the pants and coat. It was on sale at the time, but was not that expensive before the sale. I brought it to Canada with me this year and it held up great even with rain almost every day.

Posts: 115 Location: Birch Run | For warm weather you can't beat Cabela's packable and breathable raingear. I bought it for bowhunting, the pants easily slip over your shoes or boots, and the top and bottom fit into small pouches. My suit is on its 4th year with no leaks, good stuff. For colder weather I have had a Stearns coat and bibs for 5 years now that I wear ice fishing and on the boat and for the price they do a great job.

| i got a set of Dry Ducks from a local fishing store for $15. for that money it CANNOT be beat. its definitely not the best rain gear out there, but it will keep you dry. i would recommend it to anyone not wanting to pay hundreds for top quality rain gear if you're not gonna use it a lot. | |||
