I have heard with superbraids you shouldn't set the hook two times so If that has anything to do with it?

Is that what your doing? I have no idea why that is but i've just heard it before. Another one with hooksetting i've heard is if you see the fish come up on your lure don't set the hook till you feel the weight of the fish. Otherwise E, it's bad luck I don't know what to tell you.. I haave the same problem this year!Had probaly a dozen hooked and none in the boat so far. And countless follows. NOw that I think about it i'm using a 6'9" avid and someone said they had problems hooking up with them too and 100 lb tuffline. Well better luck in the future E[:knockout:]

E:
I also use 80# Power Pro - I don't set the hooks until I feel the weight of the fish and I set it HARD, TWICE. Do I land them every time? Sorrily, No - but I'm probably successful 8 out of 10 times.

Now I'll probably miss the next 8 out of 10....ha ha...[;)]

Mike

ps: it was a Vilas County musky guide who gave me this tip when fishing for some fall giants.

Good Luck

Setting the hooks too early......($*&#$%#$&
I just got back from a week of not learning from my mistakes. I hear your pain.

Do the lures you're using have split rings between the lure body and the hooks? I think a split ring adds a significant amount of "play" that contributes to the fish's inability to shake the bait. Consider the difference between Mepps (has split ring) and Buchertail 700 bucktails (no split rings) - I very rarely lose fish from the Mepps, I occassionally lose fish hooked on the Buchertails.

Hope this is helpful!

I hear ya E! Two more missed fish this weekend on the hookset! Up until this year I maybe only missed 5 fish total. I have now missed 14 fish in the last 4 weeks. Most of them are right at the hookset. I have changed nothing since last year, so I don't know what is going on. The hits are also a lot more aggressive than usual. Are these fish simply hitting the bait without opening their mouths? I have got to get this figured out before I go mad!!
