Just brought my 2006 200hp E-tech in and was told that the injectors and plugs were fouled. What could be the cause of this. This is my second year with the boat/motor. The previous owner was a salesman at the dealership. I've followed manufacturer's recommendations as far as fuel/additives winterizing etc. I do a fair amount of trolling at/near idle speeds but was told by the dealer that the E-tech is designed to handle trolling speeds as well. I just dont want to have to go through this again and I'm lookng for as much input as possible.

Karl

PS What is considered a lot of hours on a motor???? per year????

had same problem with my 05 etech 225ho, after way to much money trying to figure out problem evinrude figured spray pattern of injectors was wrong, sent us new injectors and it fixed problem, this was last year, now i ran a gas tank to empty(on accident) and the motor has not ran right since, changed filters had it put on the computer showed no codes can only get 4600rpms out of it, so needless to say not happy with evinrude at the moment, i would have dealer check spray pattern.

It only take a small amount of carbon on a spark plug to fowl it, So if you do a lot of trolling you will get more carbon deposits on the pistons and plugs and increase fowling, I doubt your injectors are bad it is rare that all would go at the same time but you could have one bad one, I would start by changing the plugs. also it is important to note you must index the plugs when you install them. Take a black marker and draw a 1" line on the white insulator, gap side of the ground. the line must be pointed within 30deg of the fuel injector or the new plugs won't get a clean shot of fuel and ignition will fail. (The old plugs should be indexed) if they aren't that could be the source of the problem, and DO NOT over tighten the plug to get it close the plug has a metal gasket for seating to the head and doesn't need to be over tightened. Also a big issue lately if bad fuel check for water in your fuel!!

I have a cousin who sells boats, and they have a pro on their staff that just had to pull out of a tourney because his etec "blew" its injectors again, whatever that means. I am not a mechanic and have no experience with etecs, just third hand information that the higher horse power etecs are prone to having some problems.

Good Luck,

C. Reuk

Hmmmm....I have a 200HO ficht that was running like crap...replaced fuel, ran treatment, no go....finally pulled the plugs and they were WAY fouled. Put new plugs in and now it runs fine....had new plugs in her last summer. Shouldn't I get more life than one season? My fishing partner figured it is running too rich---injecting too much oil---is that a reasonable assumption...he pointed out all the carbon on the inside of my prop where exhaust comes out as another indicat or that is running too rich. I'm clueless. When I take it in for winterizing should I have them check the oil injection rate? Is my pal on the right track? No--I don't troll with the motor. I do, however, regularly fish a stretch of river where I need to travel a mile or so in idle due to shallow water.....maybe that's the problem....

My 06 115 has not been running right recently. I am going to change the spark plugs here soon. I imagine that should help it out. I also have been running a fuel cleaner recently. Evinrude makes a cleaner.

I was out fishing this season with Jerry Sondag after he blew his motor. (200 e-tek) he was back in break in mode after having it rebuilt. He told me the only other problem he had with his motor was when he was running the 50 grade oil. He had the computer update done and started running the 100 and hadn't had a problem with it since. Look him up, he may have some more aanswers for you.

Confirm on having plug gaps facing injectors within 90 degrees....some of them I had to crank on a bit to turn in that direction, but it seems to have made a difference....thanks for the tip

225 03 runs like a top, but pending hours plugs to changed yearly and indexed, I index them right on to injector. Talk to tech and Bombadier, and these new motor are generating high power by getting a high voltage spark, that help burn the fuel more efficient thus going through plugs faster.
