Posts: 203 Location: Minnesota | A friend notified me that he tried to order a new Induron but was told that its not being made anymore, that Okuma will be coming with a newer better reel... I havent seen any info about this here at all??? I know I have my eyes on Okuma Red Isis (Twin Paddle) but if Okuma's coming out with new reel to replace Induron, I would like to know the specs and see pictures if possible...

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I'm surprised this hasn't drawn any more interest. Is there ANY info out there? Would be curious to know what the price is like, specs, etc. If nothing is known, do we know when there might be some information on the new reels? Thanks, curleytail

Location: Illinois | Good for Okuma. I would imagine this will be a "high quality" reel and will cost just under 200. It will probably be designed tougher so that they aren't constantly servicing the Indurons abused by use musky anglers. The Induron is a good reel, but it had too many Achilles' heels. Perhaps they decided to build a better reel that musky fisherman would pay extra for. Who knows, but it sounds like the Induron is going the way of the Dodo bird-extinct. I think they should call the new reel "Matata" Okuma Matata just rolls off the tongue....

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | The Induron was a good reel for the $$$$$, not a lot of Muskie reels out there that retails for under $120.00 ??? and the Okuma rep gave a power handle for FREE !!!!!!! It is funny how some of you had no troubles with this reel and some had all kind of troubles ???? Why is that ??? I think to many Muskies guys think this is some kind of a EXTREME FISHING or somthing ??? I love the guy who says I fish a reel hard, What he is saying is I cast pounders and I engauge the reel before the baits hits the water, I lock down the drag tight, I force open the spool release buttom fighting every fish because thats how I saw a pro do it on TV, I never oil or grease a reel and when I do I fill the reel up with so much oil and grease you have to lock down the drag because it is full of oil and grease, I wonder why my reel fills up with water after I put the reel in the water on the fig/8, I never release the drag after I'm done fishing for the day because I'll forget to lock it down next time I use it, I have fished both fresh & saltwater for over 35 years and I have never blown out a Anti-Rev bearing, why can some of you blowout 2-3 of them in a year ????? I bet the New reel from Okuma will retail for over $200.00 and 99% of you will have no troubles but 1% of you will find a way of burning it up in a week just like the old Induron. You've never blown out a anti-revese bearing? I do several times a MONTH. I just had 2 Calcutta 400TE's serviced from Shimano, with all new internal parts first week of June. Guess where they are now...???? Back in a box being shipped back to California. It's not always just a matter of how "hard" you fish, alot of it has to deal with how "much" you fish. 6-7 days a week for 8-14 hrs a day, and a month is all you can really get out of a reel. Definately looking forward to seeing what Okuma brings to the table!

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | I have 3 Shimano ConQuests, they are the Japan version of the CalCutta TE. Let me tell you that if you blow-up a Calcutta TE dual anti- rev bearing you are a EXTREME guy. Try stoping the spool with your thumb on the cast and not engaging the reel before the pounder hits the water. When you are ripping your big baits put your thumb on the spool, high end reels like the CALCUTTA TE will last for years fishing them, EXTREME FISHING & you will blow up any reel like you do in weeks. You should learn how to install the ANTI-REV BEARING yourself very easy to do and you will not be out of a reel for 2-3 weeks, very easy to replace a anti-rev bearing yourself. Are U blowing the anti- revl pawl out to ??? THAT IS HARD TO BELIEVE. You must reoil the spool bearings and the worm gear every 30-40 hours of use and the pinion and main gear about 200 hours of use, do you do that ??? Edited by PIKEMASTER 8/12/2009 7:12 AM

I have had to send mine in 2x first time was straight out of the box never even touched water, I was casting in my back yard and it would go out to the same point every time and stop with no back lash..... talked to the guys there, they said send it back so I did (side plate issue). Second time I started using it after getting it back and it was making a grinding noise, took it apart, cleaned it (tons of grease) and still making it. Ultimatly decided to send it back, guy over the phone diagnosed it as the pinion gear I believe. I should be getting it back hopefully today. Long story short, I love how the reel feels despite all the problems and was looking to someday get another......... The customer service was second to none that is for sure! Jacob

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I really have no idea, but I would think that their new reel would be similar in price to what the Induron was. It doesn't seem to make sense to me to cancel an affordable reel to come out with an expensive one. I'm only speaking for myself, but Okuma would probably see less business from me if they only offer reels from $160 and up. I liked that I could get a reel for less money (around $90 with some looking) that was pretty reliable and felt good to fish with. Anybody hear anything about these yet? I sent a PM to Mark Rogers (about something else), and he hasn't gotten back to me yet. He must be on a trip somewhere. curleytail

Would you guys like to see Okuma add a 700 size to the new line? With everything being larger I thing it should add some more durability to to reel especially when throwing and cranking the double Cowgirls. Should allow for faster retrieves also.

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Looks like the Akena for $100 will be worth looking into. In the picture it looks like they might have used the same grips that the double paddle handle on the Red Isis uses. That would be a BIG plus for me. I really like those grips. Hopefully the handle is a little longer than what the double paddle handles were on the Indurons too. I see the max drag on both of these is 10 pounds. No idea if 10 lbs. is a little, average, or a lot. I never weigh my drag setting on my musky reels. Since they make these in 400 sizes I imagine the drag will be of sufficient weight? Hopefully Mark can fill us in on these. He must be on a long trip testing these? curleytail
