Location: Rhinelander. | This past tuesday night I got a 45 incher on the E.R. chain and was surprised at its war wounds. You could clearly see where another fairly big muskie had put a bite on it. It was very evident that it was a another fish and no prop or anything else. Makes me wonder what these crazy fish are thinking when they go after something as big or bigger themselves.

| They probably just got in a fight. There is a social order from what I've seen underwater. I see paired fish throughout the season. There are packs, there are loners. There are muskies that have walleyes as close friends. If you think about it, almost every animal scraps occasionally. I can't think of a land predator that doesn't get into it once in a while.

| I once caught a chunky 38" pike that had been bitten over its back by a HUGE fish. The pike had teeth holes on both sides, top to bottom. |

| Not sure how healed over it was, but it could have still been a spawning wound. The fish where I was were still spawning during the opener. I'm sure the spawn happened into mid-June on some N. Wisconsin lakes.
They chew the shiznit out of each other during the ritual. I think it was Def Leopard who said, "Love Bites."
Or, maybe they just had a high noon dual out in the street and they opted to skip the six-shooters.

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | While fishing the Frank Schneider tournament a few years ago I caught a 38"er and had a BIG muskie follow it most of the way into the boat. Muskies spend their lives looking at everything in their underwater kingdom going "hmmmmm, I wonder if I can fit you in my mouth." |

| I am privileged to be able to spend some time with fish in their world. To learn their ways enough to be accepted to some degree. Muskies are very misunderstood, I feel. Here is a pack of muskies. There is a social order. They don't just look to kill everything. If you threaten a member, there is a good chance you will have another fish in your face.
I know these things sound strange, because I fished for them for years, and believed all the lore.
At the end of this video is a pack of muskies filmed August 1st. long after the spawn. they are just hanging in their gang, not hunting, just marking time.

I am privileged to be able to spend some time with fish in their world. To learn their ways enough to be accepted to some degree. Muskies are very misunderstood, I feel. Here is a pack of muskies. There is a social order. They don't just look to kill everything. If you threaten a member, there is a good chance you will have another fish in your face.
I know these things sound strange, because I fished for them for years, and believed all the lore.
At the end of this video is a pack of muskies filmed August 1st. long after the spawn. they are just hanging in their gang, not hunting, just marking time.

That is one cool video. I've always wanted to dive but don't really care to be underwater. Interesting how the fish seem to get along much better than fishermen.
Near the end, I thought you were going to hand feed the musky like they feed sharks in the Bahamas.

| On my desk top is a picture of a fairly good size nother with a bigger muskie partually down it's throat.

Could be true. The ski's in my tank don't fight in front of me. However, the Bass and cichlids are at war 24/7. Speaking of which, i thought i had 4 cichlids and now only count 3..? |

Not every dive mota, but fairly consistently. It's like deer hunting. You put yourself in a good area, and keep your eyes open. We had an advantage because we fished them for years before we began to dive. |

| Caught this one a few years ago on leech with my bigger brother, do you guys think a bigger musky did this? He was still super healthy and stuff, released him fine and he swam away strong. But man, emagine the size of the musky that did this!

You could clearly see the bite marks, he was doing the circle deal on top of the water not to happy. Was there a chunk out of the Bass or did you have to get real close to see the bite mark? I ask because 2 weeks ago I came up on a Smallmouth in the 2-3 Lb range doing the same circle deal on top of the water, I didn't get real close but didn't notice anything unusual about the fish, it looked healthy but no chunks were missing from the fish so I figured someone deep hooked the Smallie but that is very rare on this Lake. I was going to get up close to the Smallie on the return trip but the fish was gone and I think the "Straw Hats" scooped it up for their fish patty feast? but now I wonder if a Muskie got it? If a Muskie did attack a fish like that, why wouldn't they eat it? |

Location: McGuire AFB, NJ | #*^@ I took some pics but don't know where I put them. I actualy grabbed the bass just to see what his deal was, there was clear damage when i got close to it. I knew right away what had probably happened. When I picked him up he had a clear bite mark on his underside which had clipped his gills and left quite a bit of flesh hanging off his underside. On his back you could see another very distintive bite mark. He was hurting, no chance of recovery. I put him on a digatal scale just cause I was curious, 6 lbs 2oz and 22'' long. Guess he peeed the worng ski off! |
