I have two Lowrance units, LMS-480 and X67c, that both go haywire in shallow weeds. By this I mean when the water get to the 4 ft range the units work for a bit then read in the 100's of feet. The strange thing is the bottom reading is still visible at the correct depth but the big number in the corner is showing 100s of feet deep (the scrolling screen seems accurate). Is there a setting of something else I can do to keep this from happening?

THanks,

Same thing on my x67. make sure your transducers are far apart if you are running multiple finders at one time. That being said, mine are, and my x67 still has a hard time with the bottom.

Welcome to the nightmare.

They just released(within 2 weeks of today) a 2.5 update and instructions for shallow water settings on their download page, it took care of it on my 520 unit. Not sure if you can update those units though...

Yes, JRedig is right. On the LCX and LMS units they have released the 2.5 version software update. I've been running that software for a few days now and have been in anything from .09 feet to 40 feet without a glitch.

Those with the X67, I would suggest trying another transducer and see if that solves your problem. Transducers do go bad. Those little units are typically bulletproof.

I will check with my Lowrance contacts to see if there could be any other possibility of a problem and get back to you both.

JRedig, makes sure you go into Sonar Features and select the shallow water mode, that will prevent your unit from having issues.

I see that the 2.5 update is available on the lcx 27 and newer units, and lms 520 and newer. Do you think/know if the lcx 111 and 25c were/will be included in this update. I currently run the 1.6 or 1.7 software, a backdate from the installed 1.9 that was in them and faulty in shallow water. I do wonder if the 2.1 would fix a few of my issues, or if I'd lose the shallow water effectiveness i now enjoy(the sonar works great but I cannot enjoy some of the gps features the updates provided). Has anyone updated to the 2.1 from 2007? I'd hate to install it only to have to ask Lowrance for another backdate. Also wondering if any of the updates(2.1) for the 'older' lcx/lms units changed the startup screen to the last configuration the user had up, and not the default full map page. that would be worth experimenting for itself.
