Posts: 37 | 2nd week of August, I will be heading up to Dinorwic and staying at the Pine Sunset Lodge. This is only my second trip to Canada and I'm lucky to get the 5 day kitchen pass. We will stay in I-Falls the night before we start our stay, but we can't check in until 2 p.m. That day counts as one of my fishing days and I don't want to waste it. Is there an easy lake to access on the way to Dryden? What have others done in this situation? Thanks for any input you would like to share. Posts: 32954 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Launch in downtown Dryden at the Government Dock on Wabigoon, and fish all the bays within a mile including all the way around Anderson Island. You are on big fish water there, no question, and it's a secure and very well maintained launch site.

| Mike, If you want to try some trout water for muskies on the way up you can head in on the cedar narrows road off hwy 502 and put in at ESOX lake and just fish all the small islands north of the cedar narrows bridge, they are about 1.5 miles from the landing. The Cedar is about 30 miles up the 502 on your way to dryden on the left side of the hwy. Cedar Narrow is a gravel road and you travel it for about 18 miles, before you turn onto the esox landing road which takes you down to the water (approx. 2 mi). The muskies seem to have moved to the rocks in the past 2 weeks, so they are easy to target. Email me at [email protected] if you have any questions. | |||

Posts: 572 | Mike, Most places will allow you to launch your boat and go fishing until they have your cabin ready or check-in time. A couple of times we've unloaded most of our gear on the front porch while the cabin is being cleaned. I'd just call the resort and tell them you would like to come early to fish even if the cabin isn't ready until check-in time. I would be surprised if they told you NOT to come.

Back in the day when I went to Canada every year this is exactly what we did. Never had an issue.

Posts: 37 | Thought I would post an update of my trip to Dinorwic Lake, near Dryden. Dinorwic Lake is stained water, about as stained as Halsted Bay on Minnetonka (>2' clarity) so it was unsettling to fish a new lake and not be able to see what is happening, especially considering I have only fished stained water one other time and that lasted about an hour. We were able to launch and then check in later so with a SW breeze, we took off across the north end of their bay to a couple islands. I figured it's 10:00 a.m., cloudy, and stained water, I should use top water. I snapped on the my silver/blue Havana Jack and found some cabbage. My boat partner says, "Cast over there, you'll catch one there." Sure enough about 4 pulls into it a 38" pike comes out of the water with the Jack T-boned. I'm figuring this will be the greatest fishing trip ever. My buddy lands a 12" muskie on a Crappie Jimmy and I get a 27" muskie on a white M&G spinnerbait. Then the sun comes out and things shut down. Now, I've maybe caught 25 muskies in my life and I've never lost one boatside. In fact, I always wondered how you lose fish at the boat. I mean, they are hooked good enough to get them up there, they should stay hooked. I now know the varying ways in which they are lost at the boat. Funny how they all seemed to be pretty big, too. In the next three days, I lost 4 at the boat: two of them running at me, one across the bow, and one circling around to the back and under the motor. Three of the 4 were mid to upper 40's. We did manage to land 6 between us. The largest being 49x26. I can't believe how thick these fish were. Around it's tail was 10" alone. These are the two biggest we were able to land, but I have good stories about the ones who got away!
