I've been toying with the idea of downsizing my 619 in both size and cost but still want something that can tackle big water. Is the 690 smaller, ie single axle? I know the 681 is smaller, but would that boat handle 3-4 footers in Green Bay, LOTW, etc..?

I think a 690 can handle anything a 619 can ....I've had mine in big waves/water and it performs great... Everyone who has one or has owned one knows they are one of the best hull designs Ranger came out with...

i owned a 681 about 5 years ago...it's a great boat, but relatively small like you said. that would not be my choice for large waters like Green Bay, especially when the wind is up. the 690 or 619 would be a much better choice.

Almost purchased a left over 2008 618 this spring but went with a used 690. After fishing more and more with the 690 i'm glad I did.

The 690 can do so much more than a 618 or 681 and still launch on fairly shallow landings.

What is the 690? I did not see on Ranger website, but I may be just missing. I am looking into buying a 619 or 620 and would like to consider a 690 if it is a better choice.
Thanks.

The 690 series of boats are earlier model boats. They are no longer made, so those talking about them are looking at used rigs.

Everybody seems to like the 690's. What is so good about them compared to the 617,618,620 or 621? What is the differences between them and todays?

I think the hull design gives a more stable, drier ride than the above mentioned models, I have no regrets on purchasing mine- they are getting hard to find and usually do not last too long when they do come up for sale- I do believe Ranger still has the mold, so you could probably custom order one from them- but Im sure the cost might not be feasible...

I Have a 690VS and I would not trade for a 619, the 690 cuts the water better and figure 8's are closer to the water. it's hard to find a 690VS.

Single axle is a problem, you need to tow it with at least a 3/4 tank of gas or the trailer will swing from side to side over 75 mph down hill, martins has a double axle that will fix most of the problem, his was made in 1999.

I would vote for yes and get one.

Good Luck.

I run a 690 and have considered upgrading the motor , because the boat is easier to handle than a 619 .

690's are 18'9" and have a 90 inch beam. 692's ( dual console ) 18'9" with a 92 inch beam. Both are awesom boats.
Handle very big water ( LOTW, Green Bay) aewsome , only con would be the size of the front deck and the single axle trailer.

mine has a tandem axle and I drive 75-80 and it never sways an inch. It didn't leave Ranger until 2001 so but the hull is a 95. It has the interior of 2000 model.
There is a ton of storage in 690s w the added front deck extension. I also plugged the larger of the 2 livewells and this makes for an amazing amount of even more storage for plano's etc.
If you see one that is clean for sale snap it up quick if it's what you are looking for...they sell fast...

I absolutely adore fishing out of my 690, it's so much better than I ever imagined, happier every time I use it. I tow with a single axle and run 75'ish and have no sway problems with or without gas in the boat, done some decent drives with it already with plenty more to come.

I guess I don't see the con to the front deck size either, with even a 1/2 extension, it's pretty big IMO, fishes two no problem.

I agree. I have a 98 690 and I love it. Awesome handling. Awesome ride. Very, very dry even in 3+ footers. No problems towing with tandem axle. Fish two from the front deck without issues. Good luck finding one. They do come up for sale from time to time but sell pretty fast.

I love mine. Just blew the motor on it though (175 EFI Mariner), $7,500 for new reman power head, $11,600 for brand spankin new 175 Opti with 5 yr. warranty and $1000 for old motor, Easy decision! went with new opti. The reason im sticking that much money in a 98 boat is I LOVE THE BOAT. It is a 98 690vs, it has everything a new boat of any brand has and is in super good condition. I believe this hull and interior layout was way ahead of its time. I plan on keeping her for a good long time, when asked what year it is people cannot believe it is a 98.

I'd like to see pictures of the other 690/692 owners in this thread. Maybe we'll run into each other on the h20
