| Today I picked up a Gender Mtn Tournament Extreme Musky Rod. Is was the only "long" rod they had left in Wausau. The rod is 8' long, medium action with a fast tip and is rated for 1/2oz to 2oz lures. When I do musky fish, I tend to fish baits. Baits are things like Mepps Musky Killers, Top Raider(thanks Mike), 6" Suzy Sucker, double 8's of some sort, and such. Is this rod maybe too light for general use? Just wondering others thoughts.

For the baits you mentioned, that rod should be fine. If you start using bigger baits you're going to want a heavier action rod.

| The thought crossed my mind for an early season rod as well. When I do fish muskies, I like throwing the small stuff because many others are going big. Someone told me a few years ago to try throwing the #5 Mepps Aglia, all season long. They said the results would surprise you. While I haven't taken this advice, this rod threw them decently when yard tested today.
