| Anyone ever driven someone else's car across the border? I'm meeting someone on Eagle on the 2nd of September and want to drive my girlfriend's car to save on gas. Am I asking for problems doing this or is this not a big deal? I seem to remember them asking whose car we were in when we crossed the past couple years.
Any advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

Location: Syracuse, Indiana | About 2 years ago my wife (then girlfriend) accompanied me on a week-long trip to Red Wing Lodge. By Thursday, she was so tired of fishing she said she had to get to civilization (meaning Baudette). Another friend of mine needed parts for his boat, so while I went fishing, they headed back to MN. At the border (going into the US) she realized that she was in my truck, with a different guy, and that she had my wallet, checkbook, and passport. After some explaining, she was allowed both into the US and back into Canada. I still think the story hilarious.  More importantly, the guy I was with that day caught a mid-30s fish. I got skunked! |

Location: Oswego, IL | I was told by a buddy who works customs (canada) to get a letter from your girlfriend allowing you to take the car there. Do not just hand it over unless they ask/suspicious why your driving someone elses car. I have friends that take my truck, and I do the same.. write a letter "to whom it may concern" havent had any issue;s as most of the time they do not ask. |

Location: Nebraska | Two years ago I was in Canada for 10 days. My partner could only fish five, so I scheduled another guy to fish the second five days. The second rented a car, drove up and less than 24 hours later the first guy drove back in the same rental. In both cases one rode up with me and the other rode back. No issues on any of the four crossings. |

| The letter is a good idea. Thanks for the advice, didn't figure it would be a big deal just didn't want to deal with problems on my way to Eagle. |

| almost any letter or document should be notorized at your bank for FREE. I would check about insurance coverage and proof of coverage that includes Canada.

Location: East Troy, WI | i went up in my parents car 4 years ago, the only issue i had was coming back into the US... the guy asked me "why are you driving your parents car?" i replied "mine would not have made it"... he laughed and we went through.
i would get some sort of letter that says how long you will have it, where you are taking it, pretty much everything you can think of... get it signed/notarized.
and remember at the boarder dont give them info unless they ask for it...
