Curious if any one else has had the following issue with their V2 trolling motor foot pedal. When it gets wet, a connection is made with the water and the motor will run by itself when it is in the momentary mode. I assume there must a small hole in the board caused by grit where water is entering and allowing the connection to be made. I have had this trolling motor for about 2 years and this is the 3rd foot pedal I have had this issue with. Chuck Brod at Sportsmens Repair shop has said the problems with the V2 foot pedal have been far and few between. He doesn't know of anybody else besides me that has had this occur. I spend about 600 hrs a year fishing muskies and my equipment gets used, but I find it pretty odd that no one else has experienced this. I feel this could be a safety issue. If the water temp is 38 degrees and you are by yourself, you could have serious problems if your trolling motor begins to operate when you are not expecting it. Thanks for any feedback...

store your footpedal in your rod locker trailering between lakes, keep it as clean and dust/grit/grime free as you can.
I'd get a new one and try that route and keep that one for a spare.
They are not engineered to take the abuse guys that spend 600 hrs on the water give them.

Foot pedal is stored whenever it is not in use. I also periodically blow it out with compressed air to remove grit.

Odd issue, I've never heard of that happening either. If there's a recurring issue with every foot pedal you have, and it's a rare one, perhaps the problem is being caused by the motor circuitry?

I had the same problems with powerdrive pedals, but mine just basically wouldn't steer one side to the other or wouldn't operate at all. I tore the last one apart and it had a hole about an 1/8in on the top of the board from wear and corrossion. I never had the problem of starting though when not expected. I got about 2 years on the last one maybe a bit more.

i have a PD V2 40, and shortly after a good soaking rain it's start to act up like it's possessed. the motor is 2 1/2 years old and i'm on my 3rd pedal, Minn Kota has replaced them all under warranty and swears that i'm the only one having this problem. I fish Bass tourneys and cant afford to have my trolling motor fail so i purchased an extra pedal and keep it in the locker. I'm trying to get MK to do an even swap on a compatable cable model before my warranty is up. if not next one will be a motor guide.

If you go MotorGuide, get the wireless, it's basically bulletproof.

I've had one pedal go bad...motor would turn itself on and steer itself...it was weird. That iPilot looks awesome...but I think my next motor will be a maxxum.
