| anyone have experience doing this? right now its bare metal and I'm turning it into a camo duck boat. I've been doing some research and it looks pretty complected. Aluminum epoxy etching primers, etc... any help is appreciated

| im just about to do this to my jon/duck boat, and when i was looking at the spray paint the guy at fleet farm told me you needed a special base coat thats meant for aluminum. i tell you when i paint mine. |

| check out a product called gluvet, it is pricey ($100/gal) but it seals all seams you could then topcoat it with something else. Check out iboats.com and ask there those guys know everything there is to know and or ask about boats!

Location: Minnesota | I bought a couple gallons of a marine primer that was specifically for aluminum. First I sanded the whole thing and then applied the primer. Then I bought a couple gallons of the khaki colored camo paint (from Gander Mountain but don't remember the brand). I painted it with a brush and applied 2 coats. Then I sprayed on my camo pattern last.
That was about 8 years ago and everything is holding up really well, other than chips here and there that can be touched up with spraypaint as needed. |

| check out the stuff called camoclad i put it on my 16ft aluminum ,it goes on pretty easy and looks good and its pretty tuf no painting its like a very durable contact paper |

| Yep, that aluminum epoxy primer isn't cheap stuff. I did mine two years ago. Go down to your automotive paint store, a real one not the crappy auto zone, and they'll give you what you need. Mine was a two part deal that I had to mix together. Make sure that you're ready to spray the same day after you scuff your aluminum since I was told that it starts to oxidize right away and that the longer you wait the less adhesion you will have.
It might be worth it to go down to the body shop and ask them what they would quote to just put the primer on the boat. |

Location: Kentucky | You absolutely have to get an etching primer it is bare aluminum. If not no matter what you put on top of it will peel eventually. |

| Check out the site www.tinboats.net. There's a ton of info on there about painting aluminum, building decks, and all that type of stuff. Definitely a good resource to go along with this site...keeps me busy at work 
There's also a good thread on there where a guy used camoclad and had horrible problems with it...as well as horrible customer service. It basically pealed off his boat....check it out. |
