Posts: 40 Location: Straight out from shore! | My 5600 is getting loud and I am wondering what I need to replace. I pulled it apart and cleaned and oiled everything but it is still loud and feels like grinding/groaning when I retrieve a lure. Thanks

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | U will need to replace the pinion and main gear, Call ABU or look for a set on Ebay. U will need to replace both gears, pinion and the main. Also I would replace the Pinion Gear Keeper as well. Posts: 8792 | Pikemaster... I'[ve had to replace the pinion gear and main gear on a couple reels dues to them beginning to "grind"... I never even thought about replacing the keeper, as I didn't see any apparent wear. Is there a way to tell if it needs to be replaced? Or, is it like a worm gear/pawl, where you should just replace them as a set?

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | The keeper is plastic and if you have worn out a set of brass gears, for another $2.00 or so I would replace it, the keeper keeps the pinion inline to the main gear.

I had 2 reels with the same issue.I asked David (Bobs Rod & Reel) the Wisconsin Warranty & Service shop.. Told me,if the heavier "Power Braided" lines like 80# & 100" are used, the gears will get rough and noisy.. And did you know,if you have the 6.3-1 gears in a C3 or C4,they can be swapped out??..Sure Nuf! A gear set goes for $24.60 & $2.40 for the pinion yoke (part #20664) Bob's gets my business, because i dont like having to send my reels in thru the mail... Bobs is Warranty for Minnesota,Wisconsin & Michigan, but he gets reels from people even in N.Y. State & Washington/Idaho

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | I have custom made GEARS 5.3:1 in S.Steel for the ABU 5000-6600, will last alot longer then Brass gears. It not so much the line it's the heavy reelin of hard pulling baits.

Posts: 3484 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Those come from the inshore series? I'd like that kind of longevity..... although I don't wear out my gears all that quickly...maybe every 3 years or so.. Steve
