Went out for just a couple hours after supper tonight. No fish, but I saw a few things that many people that don't fish never see - at least not in the way we see them.

The pictures show:
Sun shining over the water while raining heavily (you might be able to see rain drops hitting the water in the first picture), a better shot of the sunset over chop, a double rainbow that looked like it ended right at the boat landing, and a 20 inch walleye that had been chewed on. Found it half alive on the surface. I put a Pounder on after finding it, and the Pounder seemed too small...

Sometimes I have to step back and realize how lucky we fishermen are to experience things a lot of other people will never see. To many people, it was just raining outside their window, but on the water, it was a lot more interesting than that.

I've seen deer swimming twice in the last 2 weeks. Also watched a beaver sit on shore and sit up and chew on some leaves while waiting for my friend to show up at the boat launch. Eagles, bears, weird weather, it sure is better than watching tv. A month ago I was hiking on Isle Royale and saw 5 moose, one was a bull and only 5 yards away from the trail.

I love being outside!

saw a dog swimming freely well off shore amongst crazy pleasure boaters on Minnetonka today. no one would claim it was there dog. it finally made it to shore......i watched it, at any point if i would have noticed it struggling i would have helped it.

awesome things happen every day...but you've got to get out there to see them.
one thing about muskie fishing is that it forces you to put your time in outside.

here's some from just this past weekend alone...

I don't have a pic, but as I was driving to the boat landing Sat morning a big 8 pt buck in velvet crossed the road right in front of the car then stopped and stood on the side of the road watching me from about 10 yards away. We watched each other for about 5 mins until he finally put his head down and fed away.

Seeing those pics is going to make the next three hours in this office go a little slower. Then what I call 'the race to the lake' begins. Thanks for sharing those pics. Lots of people I talk to don't understand that it isn't always about catching, instead it is about being out there...on the hunt.

First time for this experience.Zipping down the mighty Mississipp last night right at sundown and had a bat smack into my shoulder.I stopped to check my shorts and the little guy was sitting back in the splash well.He flips over and looked around like what the %^&$ was that and then he took off.

One of the best experiences was on Wabigoon, getting to watch a cow moose and her calf for nearly a half hour at reasonably close range.
Closer to home, I was fishing on the south shore of North Twin two years ago at about 6:00 AM one morning. We watched, what I assumed to be, a mink walking along the shore. It jumped up on the each dock and walked down to the end of a series of three docks. A yellow plastic floating minnow boxes with a trap door top was tied to the end of each dock. The mink would drop down on the minnow box, stick its head and shoulders through the trap door and enjoy breakfast! How was that behavior learned?

I recall a number of years ago on a nice fall day the trees were in full color and I was fishing on Palmer, fishing was slow so we decided to take a ride up the river to Tenderfoot, with the water being low I was using the electric to manuver the river channel best choice I ever made, While we were quietly making the ride up the river we saw Bald Eagles, Otters, Beavers,Deer including a HUGE Buck, and Bear. It was the most peaceful and beautiful boat ride that I can remember.
