Ok, I'll try this again...apparently the honesty (which I very much appreciated!) in my last post about -bleep- reels wasn't kosher since it got nixed. Maybe this approach will be better...since much of the trends have changed through the past few years, I'm trying to figure out which reel manufactures have the the best customer service. From personal experience, and some input from the grapevie, I'll take a stab and rank the top 4 and leave others off so as not to offend -

1) shimano
2) okuma
3) bass pro
4) pure fishing (abu, pfluger)

Okuma, great customer service.

As far as the rest: No brand bashing is allowed, no matter what company is the target. Ask all the questions about what the best route might be to take care of your issues, but avoid the name calling, etc.

These terms will get a post zipped pretty quickly:
Rip off
Junk
Garbage
Hope this helps in the future!

I had a great experience with customer service from Abu Garcia this past summer. They sent me a part I lost for a reel with no charge that very day so I could have it in time for my trip to Canada that was fast approaching. It was only a 20 cent part but I thought that was pretty nice of them since I lost the part while cleaning my reel.

I've had good service with Abu. as well as Sportsman's repair, and Bass Pro. I've sent my Abus to all of them. Cost is about the same. Good Luck Doug

Abu Garcia, last month I sent in an Ambassador 6000, (about 35 years old), and two Cardinal 753's, (about 25 years old each), to be repaired. I had my doubts about the ambassador because in was so old. I received an invoice for $87.00 with a note at the bottom, that said it would be more cost effective to replace the reels. I didn't understand the invoice because there were parts listed and two miscellaneous $22.00 charges, so I called them and they connected me to the person who was doing the repairs.
He said the Ambassador was already repaired, it was the two 753 Cardinals that they did not have parts for anymore! The two $22.00 charges were for two new 300 series Spinning reels. He said that since Garcia couldn't repair the two reels they were offering 45% off ANY two reels I choose! I upgraded to the 404 and a 400 ultralight for $27.50 each! That was on Friday afternoon, my three reels were delivered Monday morning!

Great Service, and if you have any old reels that need to be repaired take a shot at sending them in to Garcia, you may be able to get a deal on a new reel!

Service will always be necessary, but I try to spend my money on companies that have a quality product to stand behind, rather than tout their customer service. I have requested service on three items related to musky fishing. Each time I was treated fairly.

yeah I've tried that a bit too...but days and days straight of 8-12 hours of hard casting seem to bring any reel to its knees eventually! If I casted 1/3 less...something tells me that my reels would last 3 times longer!

Fortunately, I mean unfortunately I am only a part time weekend warrior. It takes me years to wear stuff out as opposed to others that wear their equipment out in months. What bothers me is when something fails during a weeklong trip. No amount of service is going to save you then, only backups.

A couple of years ago I had to send in two ABU reels for repairs a few months apart. Rather than repair the two discontinued reels they sent me a new 5600 C4 for the smaller reel and a new 6600 C4 for the larger one. Great customer service!

I have some Calcutta TE reels and Shimano has a program that they turn them around in 2 days and their prices are fair.

I've been disappointed with ABU's service in the past. I've sent in a Record for what I now know was a common problem with this reel, only to have it sent back with them stating the reel just needed to be cleaned. After realizing the problem was not resolved, customer service did not seem very happy or willing to check out the less than one year old reel without charging for labor/parts, etc...Oh well, I'm less concerned about customer service now that I know Chuck from Sportsman's repair will provide top notch service at a fair price. Okuma's customer service has always been excellent imo
