Any clubs near Oskaloosa Iowa? Just lost my job but got a new one (same comapny) and will be moving to Iowa soon. not as many lakes as MN but still looking forward to coming home! Got a 3 acre pond I want to build and put a few Tigers in next year. We will see if that happens.... TIA

I don't know of any clubs in the area. I live about 25-30 minutes from Oskaloosa. Shoot me a PM when you get settled.

I just moved to Iowa as well (Des Moines) I know there's a club on the northern side of the state, not sure about central, or southern Iowa though.

Hey Roy. Just bought a 445 John Deere today from the Grinnell John Deere store. It is my home town from childhood. My dad built that underground house out on Farmhand road in the early 80s. That 3 acre pond my dad and I built. He got a D9 and I got a little D3 bulldozer. That was too much fun running a D3 when I was in 8th grade! lol That pond used to have some huge fish in it.

I will let you guys know once my muskie hit 40" in my pond I plan on feeding them like little kings.

I think I will be the largest musky/pike lure company in Iowa to boot... ha ha

Thanks shaley! I will not be too far away from CR and also have relatives up in Waterloo. I just looked into the Iowa DNR and I see Rathbun has some musky in it too. Fished Rathbun a long long time ago and remember it was just a big body of water. Also fished Hawthorn and at the time it had Tigers in it. Wonder if the DNR kept it stocked for the last 20 years? Good way to find out

Iowa quit stocking Tigers in all lakes years ago, we do have some up here through best guess is some natural reproduction. Rathbun is big, never have fished it, hard to stray away from my clear waters at home.

No Tigers only means there are only big ones left in Hawthorne Although they would all be 20+ years old now. Not sure how old a Tiger can get. That lake is fun. 10' to 20' of trees on the bottom. They just flooded an old forest when they made that lake. Snag heaven as I remember!

James,
I know exactly where that house is. I have always thought that was a real nice looking spread. The pond really sets that entire place off.

Unfortunately, Hawthorne is dead. Hawthorne hasn't received a stocking in over 5 years and the IA DNR has no intentions of re-starting the stocking efforts in that lake. The carp and gizzard shad have taken over that lake completely. It has probably been 5 years since I have heard of a ligit catch out of Hawthorne. I use to fish it a ton but haven't fished it in over 2 years.

Sound slike Hawthorne need about 1000 20lb Northern or Musky to go kick some A and clean house To bad about that lake. It was a very nice lake to fish when I was a kid.

James

PS-That island in the middle used to have a cool little house on it. It was were I used to build my Estes rockets and fire them off. Also where I used to reload for my shotguns. More than a few explosions may have occurred out there

Scratch Rathbun off your list for the pursuit of Iowa Esox. That would be a big waste of time.
