I have recently received a free Catala 400 from a buddy, He said it was just laying around and that i would put it to better use. It's practically new, in great shape and works well.
Anybody know anything about them, quality, cost, any problems??
I see they were discontinued some time back therefor not able to find any decent info about them.

Yep I've got one. I think when it I got it, it was like 199.99 or something, in that ball park. Its a quality reel, I still use it on one of my backup set-ups. Hasn't given me any trouble really. Good drag on it. If you don't have any reel oil, get some. Oil it up occasionaly and it should work out for you.

A good friend and boat partner of mine has one as his primary reel. Granted we are only weekend fisherman, but his has been flawless for about 4 years. The only gripe would be that it seems to freeze up a bit in extreme cold. Other than that, no problems.
