Posts: 378 Location: Michigan | I am after a Jerkbait rod longer than 7' and suitable for throwing HR 8" shakers, Hugheys, wabulls, other 4-6 ounce glide baits baits. Price limit is $225, but would like to keep it under $200 if possible. The only thing I am comming up with is the St Croix Premier PM76MHF... Your preferences are apprecated.

Location: Oswego, IL | Compre, Premiers, Okuma, and above post I use either my 7' Avid, or 8' Compre for that same application, works fine for me, and the wallet. Edited by muskiewhored 6/9/2009 6:31 PM

Posts: 311 Location: Ontario | That Premier is way south of $225 and just a terrific all-round rod, IMO. I think I have three of them. I don't throw the heavy gliders hardly at all but it does handle the Hang 10 Manta fine. One of those rods that'll go from a Topraider to rippin a 10" Jake to trollin to grinding a big spinnerbait to walkin the dog and on and on. Tough rod to put down in my boat. Heard nothing but good things about the Thorne Bros rods too, like shaley says.

Posts: 106 Location: On Lake St Clair Michigan | I have the blanks for the PM80MHF and the TM/LTM86HF (SlingBlade) coming this week and I think that the +8ft is better. I have yet to read people state that they wish they bought a shorter rod. Just a thought Rich

Posts: 415 Location: madison wisconsin | I use a st croix 7'6" heavy premeire. It will work small gliders to heavy jerks pretty good. I bought it for $160 a couple years ago, now I think its around $170.

Posts: 378 Location: Michigan | Thanks for all the suggestions folks. My main JB rod is a 7'6' Diamondback that Frank Bottiglieri built for me a few years back. That is one sweet rod which is very light and sensative, but also has the balls to toss shakers and wabulls. I love this rod... It's also gorgeous, as Frank does the prettiest butt wraps i have ever seen... I also have an Esox 6'10 that is actually a great rod, at least it was when it was 6'10". I broke the tip off twice, so now it is a bit stubby at ~6'6". I fish out of a multi species boat, and i am over 6' tall, so this rod is just too short. when 6'10", it was probably the best bobbie and suick rod I have used, but a bit light for heavier baits IMHO. I also have a 2 pc 7' compre, which is too heavy... It will work in a pinch, but definately much heavier, and slower than the others mentioned. I mainly bought this for fly ins when i can't take full length rods (because Northwest keeps breaking mine...) For my backup rod, I am really looking to keep cost low, but get as close to the wieght of the Diamondback as i can. The St' Croix Premier 7'6" heavy weighs more, but definately are workhorses. The other important factor is a long butt section. I have long arms, so ideally I need 16". I have had Frank build several rods for me, all of which have a 16" butt, and now that i have gotten used to that, it is hard for me to adjust to less. I will give all your suggestions some thought. Thanks!
