Not for sure about anyone else, but Im having some problems casting these things when the wind picks up and my new Saltist LW30 seems to not like them sometimes. So I have wrapped 50 size solder around the back hook shank to give these some rear weight.I noticed these baits are front heavy and would assume some weight on the back wouldnt hurt to cast them a little better and maybe run just a tad deeper.Didnt cost me anything,I had a full roll of this stuff collecting dust.Guess I wont know till i try it.....and I did boat my first DCG fish here in Missouri while trolling with the ball weight.Actually the fish hit before I even got the rod in the holder.

the problem isn't the weight its that those big blades that catch alot of wind. they cast just fine if its not to windy and if you cast with the wind they go a mile, I know not always possible. I have used some knock offs that are a litttle lighter than the cowgirl and like them for when the weeds get really high because they don't sink as fast.

Congrats on your first DCG fish! I am sure it will be the first of many. When casting the DCG on these big spool diameter reels, I find it best to first pull the skirt back on the DCG or SuperModel. You will have the rear hook with the shrink tubing over it, then you will have the egg sinker. Between the egg sinker and the rear skirt, I like to attach a split ring and then attach a 3/4 to 1oz Dipsey Sinker (tear drop shaped sinker with the brass wire running through it with an eye twisted on one end) to it. Doesn't affect the running depth hardly at all and makes casting a LOT easier with these big/deep spooled reel with a high rate of retrieve. It is a quick and easy fix and makes your life a lot easier! 20+ years ago I used to wrap solder around the hooks on my Suicks to make them run deeper and suspend more. It worked, but the problem is that is greatly reduced the gap on the hooks---and cost me some fish!!! I quickly got away from wrapping solder around the shanks of my hooks!!!

Too much weight at the rear of a bucktail can make them difficult to get the blades spinning. You'll probably be OK, but if they are hard to start, reduce the rear weight.

IMO with those blades and the size of it is already easy to cast

I put a rubber core sinker on the wire shaft between the two skirts. Just pull the rubber out and squeeze it onto the shaft w/ a channel lock or pliers.

I guess you don't have a saltist, and tried casting a double cowgirl into a 15mph wind yet. With my 7000 I can make a short cast with no problems but not enough speed to pick up line from slack line do to casting into strong wind on top of weeds. The saltist is great but too much wind resistance with doubles, will have to try adding weight.

I have over 1 ounce in the rear on mine and the Saltist cast them perfectly even in wind. But anything like my small lures, the Saltist doesn't like them. Pretty much have to dedicate that reel to the big puppies.
