Last night fishing the west metro for bass we had no pattern to work from, considering it was our first time bass fishing for the season. My buddy purchased some sweet beavers, I had one tied on Texas rigged, with the pegged weight. Decided to flip docks to try and locate fish shallow or eliminate some water.

Five minutes into it, third dock or so, I get bumped and then feel nothing, twitch again and notice something moving in the water. Water was gin clear, but choppy and the sky was overcast so the visibility was difficult. Low and behold a muskie is swimming with my sweet beaver! I thought I better set the hook because at the time I Didn't know he was carrying it. It all happened so quick.

Moral of the story is I think I just became a fan of creature fishing. First thing I thought of was Steve Worrall and his insights on creature fishing. Seems like something that could be very fun and very different from what everyone else is doing.

Come June 6th, I will be probably chasing the skunk around the boat. It never fails.

Bass fishing guy recommended these for muskies last year, cause he has had ski's hitting them bass fishing. I picked some up and prerigged more as a throw back bait

Yeah those things work pretty well. I use the black and blue one, not to mention the lady on the bag is just #*^@ sexy!

The double dipped sweet beavers are hugh for a bass bait around 5+ inches. I like how the stomach is another color. Green pumpkin back(1 side) and a watermelon belly. Dip the fins in dye especially garlic dye. Smallie beavers kill the smallie in Vilas county(Black with red glitter) etc
.They hold on alot better than a leech. Zoom Brushhawg is a big creature bait that might be good for Muskies, I usually Carolina rig the baby brushhawg. tacklewarehouse.com

EVERYTHING eats a beaver. i have been useing them for 3 years now and have caught just about everything on them includeing 2 skis this season and a pig walleye.

My favorite lure for flippin' and pitchin'.
I rig it up for muskies with 30# Tuf-Plus, 4/0 EWG Gamagatzu Hook and a 1/2 ounce sinker and 8' XXH bass rod and pitch holes and inside turns in milfoil, as well as cabbage edges. Try the Baby Bass color or Olive/Pearl Laminate. That color looks like any white belly panfish as well as frogs. I too wish that they would make a 6" model or bigger, but finding the right sized hook gets tough. It amazes me that bite offs are rare, but that is a good thing.

Good find Bill! I'm sure those are comparable. Probably much cheaper to purchase also.

Luckily I'm blessed with a very good friend/fishing partner that picked some up for us at Bass Pro Shop in Cincinnati.

gander has there brand of beavers also and work just as well. as long as it has that beaver shape they will work as good as the sweet beaver as long as its green. but the sweet beaver has the best names for its colors.lol.
