Location: Oswego, IL | I must say this is the biggest box I have ever had delivered with a reel in it. Its much bigger than my 30, so I dont know if I am going to keep it, or send it back. Such a hard decision. Anyone have both 30 and 40 HS levelwinds? If so let me know how each one is for you, is it worth having the 2? |

| I would think if you are happy that your 30 is doing what you need, then why have the 40. I have no experience with these, but in general if I don't need it bigger/faster then I will go with the reel that is smaller & lighter. If you really need the added line pickup speed (47" vs 35") or capacity or or max drag (20 vs 15.4), then keep the 40HS. Put some time in on the 30 if you haven't already, and I would think you'll know your answer. |

Location: Oswego, IL | Good point there nclaker. Well the whole idea was yes, to have one that could burn the crap out of lures while they held up. And not to mention with all the lures getting bigger each year, incl 2lb+ dawgs, everyone is going to need Bigger reels at some point. So I figure to have a big one and a smaller one. I was looking for someone with TIME on these reels to let me know Pros and Cons between the 2 or each before I spool the new one up. |

Location: MN | I thought the same thing when mine came in, they are huge. Kept mine for the really big stuff, fishing mag dawgs and pounders fast, burning the snot out of Dbl #13s. However, these functions are still attainable with other-smaller reels. Most people I know have opted for the 30. Also, there have been discussions on the Thorne Bros. website regarding these reels. Bob Turgeon has spent some time with them and could give a little feedback through his link on the website. |
