It's a 520c that Ive had for 2 years. First time out this year the depth flashes about 90% of the time. Do i need another new transducer?

Is this happening in shallow water or at all times? There was a problem with the units reading in shallow water, but the software upgrade took care of that problem. I would check and make sure that you are on the correct software version. If that is good to go, I would try angling your transducer down one notch. I was having trouble with my depth reading when at WOT, angled the transducer down one notch and took care of the problem.

I would guess that you need a new transducer. I have 2 520's on my boat and have replaced a transducer on each. The depth flashed and would not lock in, replaced transducer and it worked fine. Had the same problem with my X-85 3 years ago.

I would agree, the transducers don't last forever. I'd suggest if you have a buddy who has a 520, x-27, 28, 111, or any of the bigger model units to hook yours up and double check to see that it's not the unit.

There was a video on here of someone from Thorne Bros showing what settings you need to use to fix this issue but i can't seem to find it. Maybe someone can link that for you.

Basically make sure you have the latest firmware and then set your unit for shallow water and there is one or 2 other settings to change.

That should take care of it.

There have been some shallow water problems, but I would bet it's your transducer. I run two 520s in my boat, and the bow unit started flashing about 90% of the time too, no matter what depth we were in. I swapped the units, and it was always the unit hooked to the front that didn't work right. Either unit worked fine on the rear transducer.

I sent Lowrance and email, and they got back to me about a week later asking me for my contact information and tole me they would send me a new transducer. Then another few days later they said that particular transducer is backordered... Either way, they are going to send me a new transducer, no questions asked. You might want to try calling them. I have a feeling you would get a faster response that way.

Lundbob,

I think this is what you're looking for. Good luck and let me know if it works. http://upload.outdoorsfirst.com/watch.asp?id=1053

This just happend to my X-135, Just kept flashing 60ft. Tried the soft and hard reset still the same. I swaped out with a working X-125 and still the same thing. Lowrance is sending a new transducer but its on back order...If you call Lowrance be ready to be "On Hold" for at least 35 min.

On another site, I have heard the results from the 2.4.2 BETA update is like night and day for the shallow water problem on the 520's.

My first question would be this: Are you running two units at the same time? If you are, turn one of the units off and see what happens. If that solves your problems, all you have is two transducers interfering with one another.... simple solution is to turn one off while the other is on.

If you are in shallow water and only one transducer, see if you can get with a buddy and hook up a new head to your transducer....if it does it on his unit, then the transducer is going bad...

I need a new transducer, too. Moving more than 5 MPH makes it flash, sometimes it says I'm in 490 feet of water. Those are the times, especially in a tourney, when I'll tell my partner we're over a deep hole, let's try here.

Welcome to my hell. I have a 332c, and I've replaced the transducer, and still, flashing depth most of the time. Sometimes it will kick in, but no matter what depth, speed, adjustments to the modes, it still works only very sporatically. Even if I'm sitting still over 10 feet of water with a sandy bottom and no weeks, flash, flash, flash. I'd sure welcome any advice.

Can you tell me what software you have on that unit? How old is the unit and have you done any software updates to it?

Hey TJ,

The unit is about 4 years old, I did a software update on it when it came out (Ver. 1.90 which is the latest update on the LMS-332C). Although it wasn't working perfectly before the update, it may have gotten worse after the update (or it may just be getting worse as time passes). Got a brand new transducer and I swear, it only made it worse!

gopackgo, I would consider back dating your unit. Some of the updates for the unit you describe, made shallow water reading worse. I have lcx 25c and lcx 111's and had to back date both of them after installing the 1.9. I went back to 1.7 on one of them and 1.6 on the other. I have plenty of issues with them still, but they no longer flash when in shallow water like they used to. Lowrance technical support helped me out by sending out a backdate file for my units. Good luck.
