I took a buddy up to Newton today for some possible fly rod muskie action; I say 'possible' since I'm never all that optimistic about anything on a fly rod.

I think I probably got my first follow on about my third cast...and it only got better from there. I do need work on my fly rod hook ups since I lost 4 that did hit, but Craig doesn't - he boated 7 of them himself. I did manage to get one in the boat though. It was one of the best muskie days I've ever had. The weather was sunny and calm, very few people on the reservoir and the fish were everywhere. I'm sure we had over 50 follows (probably closer to 80 - we lost count around 30); many of those were multiple fish at a time. At one time I had 2 follow me to the boat and Craig had 3 - we're sitting there looking at 5 muskies that won't eat. But for now it's off to get some Ibuprofen on board...old worn out shoulders.

Sounds like one heck of a good day, I would love to catch a Muskie on Fly Tackle but I need to figure the fish out on regular Tackle before I try the Fly Tackle

I was using a Loomis GL3 8 wt. and Craig had a Sage RPL (I think) 10 wt.
Our presentations were subsurface, but not by much. Floating lines and about a 6-8' leader. The bugs were running about 6" to a foot below surface.

*edit* when I get a chance; I'll post some pics of the flies we were using; I have to tie up some new ones

sounds like a great place to fish..

Thanks; It's in Northern Utah.
It's a fun place to fish on weekdays - it's pretty small, and on weekends, it can get kind of crowded.

This would seem a good place to insert pics of the flies; the 8" Jake is for scale.
