After reading this site for about the last year, I decided this fall to take a crack at making some of my own basement lures, and it's been a blast so far. I've made bucktails forever, but this is my first crack at making wooden lures... mostly because I wanted a really big Super Shad Rap, and couldn't find one (I noticed now that tacklebooty is making some, and hope to pick up a couple this winter). So I got a scroll saw and a dremel, grabbed some scrap cedar from a deck-building project, and dove in.
Everyone posting has been a big inspiration, and I've learned a ton already. But I was wondering if there are any instructional videos available that could help a beginner get up to speed... techniques for construction, tools, painting/finishing, and tuning the final product. Nothing super complicated- just help avoiding common mistakes. So far I've just produced about nine or ten different prototypes of lures I'm going to test in a friend's apartment's swimming pool, and have my fingers crossed that they'll work, one way or another.
But if anyone knows of a good beginner's video, I'd greatly appreciate it. Trial and error has it's own benefits, but I guess I'd rather minimize the error as much as possible.
And if there isn't, I guess I'll just keep reading here... (unless one of you out there wants to get into making movies! I'd be glad to help...)
Thanks!
