| Can somebody please tell me the correct color for Opti Max oil. The oil that came with the boat is a kind of blue color and I just bought some from Cableas (the bring your own container) and its brown. The Cabelas oil is on sale for $19.88 which I thought was cheap, but did they give me the wrong oil or does my boat have the wrong oil? |

Location: In the slop! | Andy, all the opti-oil I have bought has been brown. Never found it in bulk, always in one gallon jugs.
The Mercury gear-lube I use is blue, not sure what that means but something to think about? |

Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | The oil I put in my Opti has always been brown. I usually run either the Mercury Oil or the Quicksilver. That doesn't mean different brands of oil can't be a different color. Just make sure that it meets the specs for the Opti engine. |

Location: Grand Rapids MN | Amsoil HP Injector has a definite blue color to it. I use this stuff in my carbed Merc. Wonder if they were using that instead of the Opti oil since the product says it can be used for the Opti's? |

I have a 1999 OPTI 225 and it has been bullet proof. Amsoil rocks!!! |

| Sounds like I have the Amsoil, I suppose I should stick with the same oil or can I mix it with the opti oil? |

Location: Grand Rapids MN | Andy, if you want to switch to Opti oil just run your reservoir down as much as possible and then add the new oil to minimize mixing. There shouldn't be anything that's not compatible between the two oils. Most are made up of the same additives (but in different quantities and some quality), ash content, and any of the base oils: Group III, IV, V are compatible so all is good. I like Amsoil just because most of their products are blends of Group IV (PAO) and V (Esters) which after all the jargin gives me a cleaner burning oil with good protection.
I'm not familiar w/ Opti oil so I can't comment on it... Good luck with the new rig Andy. |
