Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | What crime / incident was he turned away for? They are pretty hardcore with that crap as of late. I have had buddies with DUI's that they let through instantly because they didn't want to do paperwork, and other times they have been turned away. It matters the officer at the crossing. Once the flag you your going to be hassled forever.
I was in a fishing group several years ago with 12 guys. One of the members sons tried to smuggle a miniscule amount of pot in his shoe. Got busted by the airport drug dog, and was retained in a Manitoba jail for 24 hours. The amount was so small they let him go to the fishing camp the next day, but he had to return to court the following month. They let him go with a slap, but since I was in the group, every time I venture into that province, I get my luggage searched at the airport customs. It's a pain! |
| Funny thing, Int Falls is easier to get through than Baudette. I got popped going through Baudette with a lightly green stinky cigerette 3 years ago. Needless to say they turned me around after 2-3 hours in a cement room, and tore apart the truck, hand searched me up and down if you know what I mean, told I can call a lawyer or the US consolate if I wanted to, said if i had more than 4grams they wouldve took my truck and bring me to jail. Made me sign some crap that basically said I was smuggling drugs, and said something about violating an immigration Act. Crazy! So after all that, then turning around just to tell the US customs what just happened becuase obviously I had to come back in right away, stay at a hotel that night and had to take a boat to the resort while my buddy went back through into Canada with my truck. SO moral of this story, dont be a dumb ass it totally sucks. And if your buddy got caught once they can refuse him, you may be lucky and they just mess with you (everything but refuse you) but I will never try again until I fill out and go through all the rehabilitation application stuff with Canada. I have a buddy who take me by boat always staying in us territory even on lotw. Of course I still do fish in Ontario once there. da da daaaa......... shhhh
Oh forgot to mention the reason why they pulled us in, somehow they have juvie records, because when I was teen I got assult and battery, and a pot charge and that what they asked about, funny thing all that stuff is asponged in the us, i was 16!
Have a back up plan for him!
