I have a few different jerkbaits and have not found one that I really like. I have a Suick, Hellhound, and a few reef hawgs. What are a few of your favorites and why? How do you work them? Type of rod you use? I think the glider style would work best for me because I like to fish fast and lose patience if the lure is slow. Any help would be great!

There's really a big difference between jerk baits. There's pull baits like Suick and gliders like Phantoms and my favorites in Muskie Treats, Wabulls, Cobbs and Undertakers. Glider jerks for me are the funnest to work, pull baits like Suicks will put more fish in the boat though.

Small Bobbie Baits are fun and have a great wiggle. Smity baits are super easy to use (dive and rise like a Suick but with no tail to tune). I like both the small and lg Smity's. I use gliders some, but don't really care for them.

I use a GLoomis jerkbait rod. I had a St Croix 6'9" jerk rod that I like more but I broke that on the gunwale when a fish dove under the boat (on a Suick).

I forgot that I bought a Phantom softtail also. Do I use the rod to inpart action or just the reel? I am new to this musky game so the more details would be great.

Manta , easiest working glider that I've found. Unweighted Sledge for around weeds, work it quick with short hard jerks.

As far as the dive and rise type style it would be the Hawg Teaser for me. it dives as well as moving side to side. for the glider style you cant beat the manta.

Love the Suicks personally, but if your looking for another dive and rise jerkbait, you might try the Big (or Lil') Daddy by Musky Mayhem. But be patient and you will be rewarded because it is often during the pause or slow rise to the surface when fish hit the bait.
For the side to side baits, Phantoms and Wabulls are proven producers. Somewhat new to the U.S. market are Lundberg Custom Tackle Stalkers. Great paint jobs and individually tank tested. Been fooling big pike in Europe for years.

I really like gliders like Phantoms, mantas and such. The one I have really come to love is the Musky Buster Appealer. Great in the weighted model! As for suicks, They are my favorite Jerk - I often prefer to work them fast. With hard short snaps of the rod. I use an 8'6" XHF to get the desired short bursts with the bait. It really produces some ferocious strikes. The WTD Big Daddies are kick A$$ as well. I like to bend the tail in a V and give them several short machine gun snaps then pause and wait for it to get to the surface. Last season I had a couple days where the BD was all that would get eaten - but only when worked in that manner.

It's funny with the big blade / big rubber craziness, many people forget about the joys of jerkbaits.

I really like throwing the squirrly burt. medium to long pulls just gliding it along works well. It looks really nice in the water, very pleasing to cast. Oh and i use a St. Croix Premier 7'6 mh to throw it

I found the Phantom to be a little harder to get the side to side action than a hellhound.... Plus in my first 25 casts or so I had 2 follows on the hell hounds... i personally haven't done well with suicks- but I'm wating for the weed beds to show, then I'll use them more.
