My son Keith works out of the Woodruff DNR office, and has been stripping suckers the last week for the hatchery. He found this on the bank while setting nets, looks like this one broke off.

Cool looking indeed. Too bad it was the demise of the fish.

as least they were using a quick strike. too bad the fish couldnt survive with the rig in its mouth, i would think if the sucker came off and it was just the hooks and leader it could survive, as long as the leader didnt wrap around its mouth

That reminds me of a fish I happened on in November of '07 and again in August '08. In '07, I pulled a broken quick set sucker rig out of her mouth that was surely causing severe anorexia. When I caught her the second time, she was only a hundred yards or so from the original spot. She obviously hadn't beefed up at all, but it was good to se her again. Hopefully she will grace my boat again and again for helping her out!

Looks like the angler beefed up a tad to make up for it though.

yeah, i think the angler in that picture is more of a trophy than the fish. a true monster definetly worth a replica! whats the girth on that guy!

Perfect Drift,
Fish die from being caught. Reality is, if you don't want to occasionally unintentionally kill muskies, you had better not fish them.

This OBVIOUSLY wasn't intentional, and finding the jaw with hooks still attached told a story, and is pretty rare. All in all, it was a cool find. Don't try to make it a pro/anti kill issue, it isn't, and won't be.

So yes, you missed the point.

You better believe theres quite a few fish that looks like a perfect release that just don't make it! Very sad, but true!

Amazing that the fish could be picked clean like that and the hooks have barely rusted.....
