I've got a topraider that I wanna paint black. I'm not worried about it having a super paint job...but would like for it to at least look descent. Just curious what the best way to go about it is? I've never painted any of my baits til now. Can I just scuff the area I can get to, without worrying about the area in between the two halves? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also, What is the best way to go about re-painting the tail? Will just scuff & paint be fine?

Simplest way would be to use a black permanent marker pen, no need to scuff the original paint and can be retouched at any time

Take off the belly hook. Mask the tail hook and the joint so paint doesn't run into shaft. Scuff it up with a light sandpaper. Spray it with Zinsser Coverstain. Then spray with black Krylon. Topcoat with Devcon 2-Ton. Should last a couple seasons.
