I have a 55pd ap that is acting up. Works great then starts searching lef right left right ect........ Touch the pedal either left or right and it stops for a minute then starts seaching again. Is it possible to replace just the auto pilot parts?

Your compass board is shot. Take it in to a minnkota service center and they will replace it for around $150-$200.

Is this a repair i can make my self. I alway do most of my own repairs. Is it as simple as remove old board and plug in new board or more to it than that? Thanks

How old is your motor? Everything is covered under warranty for three years.

If it is not covered, I think it will cost around $100. Dorn's on Midvale will fix it.

It won't be under warranty. They gave me back my old compass board when I had mine repaired, and it didn't look like it was all that hard to change it.
But, I don't think Minnkota will send you a new compass board unless your a factory service center.

Oh yeah, I droppped mine off on a Tuesday morning and got it back on Thursday evening.
I can't remember the guys name that did it, but it's that little shop just north of minocqua on hwy 51 on the east side of the road.
He really helped me out alot because I had a tournament to fish that weekend and I couldn't get him the morning until the tuesday before.

Dorns is an authorized dealer. The guy that fixes the motors doesn't work fulltime. I've taken mine in twice and had it back within a couple days each time. I would call and see if they have a wait right now. It is a common problem so I'm sure he has the parts, the only way you wait is if he has a lot of motors in the shop.

You can do it yourself, it is 3 screws and a couple wires. Mine had instruction in the box too.

Can you just order a compass board from MinnKota?

Just for future reference, that motor will do exactly that if the batteries are out of wack. Meaning, when the voltage lowers, the search will begin on the bow mount. It will be fine when you start and then they will start to hunt little by little till they wont work on AP at all.

It's worth the trip to go to this guy.

He is an authorised MinnKota service center and works out of his house and takes appointments and will repair while you wait. He will also work on the unit while it's still on the boat if needed. His hours are 9am thru 6pm Monday thru Saturday.
He stocks all parts also.

Think I have the issue fixed. I forgot that the trolling motor plug had a bad connection and always had to push it to one side. I eliminated the plug today and it worked great. Will get a replacement plug and hope it is good. Thanks for all the help.
