Posts: 8795 | I prefer the 6500C4, with a power handle. 6.4:1, picks up line quickly. You'll only get a season or two out of it, but the parts that wear out are cheap and very easy to replace. Generally speaking? I used to think "buy the most expensive reel you can afford"... Today I think "horse#*#*, but a reel you can fix when it breaks, because it will break eventually. Buy two of them, then you'll always have one that works..."

don't "buy the most expensive reel", instead buy the reel you can afford that performs best and is durable. jerkbaits especially put a lot of stress on the parts of a reel. i sure as heck don't want a reel that i know will fail eventually, because i've had that happen to me with a fish on the line...and that sucks in a way that backup reels can't help. far and away my favorite is the Shimano Curado 300. not cheap, but not expensive; high speed; built like a tank.

Posts: 692 Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | I prefer the same reels I use for blades - Except non-level winds. - The line pick up it huge when working jerks. In the past I have used Calcutta 700's & Abu 7000's. This year I'm running a bunch of Saltists. Edited by Jsondag 5/8/2009 4:25 PM

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | I used to use a C4 but don't have any power once you catch a fish. I switched to a TE and it worked well. This year I'm trying my Curado and I think that is going to be the ticket. It's low profile so you won't get "the claw" twitching gliders all day. It also has a fairly high speed retrieve similar to a C4. They're also very durable, much more so then the Abu's I've had in the past.

I'm currently using a Maina 5.1 to 1 bass pro reel...100 bucks..been using it a seasons worth of fishing now with no trouble...can't go wrong for 100 bucks..at times they go on sale for 70.

Posts: 734 Location: Watertown, MN | Calcutta 400 and 400TE, the have been bullet proof, but this year will be trying the curado 300 and the new revo toro 60, for reason like treats stated, I palm and the hand cannot take it all day. Troyz

Posts: 135 Location: Irvine, KY | 5600 C4 for the reasons listed above, but I have plans to go to a Toro 50HS because of palming with small hands. Edited by Muskiecut 5/13/2009 1:42 PM
