Subject: ranger live well?

I have a 1998 690vs and I am trying to figure out what the three switches are suppose to do for the live well, the manual is no help at all. The switches read empty, resculate and auto. The problem that I am having is when I put the boat into the water the live wells fill up. I plugged the drain ports in the live wells and I still get water. What should I have this switch at to stop this from happening.

Hope this helps.

I have mine on Recir. with the drain plugged from the outside. My livewell never gets any water in it and is a huge storage area when muskie fishing.

Thank you for the link, this helps allot and explains what the positions do. I must have something wrong with the flappers because if I have the switches on empty I should not get water in live well unless I engage the pump.

I just put plugs in the drain and fill of the livewell on my 681 to turn it into tackle storage. Haven't put it in the water yet, but hopefully it works.

That system will fill when on 'empty', as that opens the drain to get the water out of the well. Head pressure will partially fill the livewell every time. If the system is working right, the correct setting to keep water out is Recirculate. That seals the system from outside.

Steve is right, recirc seems the best setting for not using the well. That website says to leave in empty, but I think the valve is in a 'sure' closed position in recirc, vs. reliance on a flapper in empty. Those valve flaps seem to seat better the more they are used. The guy I bought mine from used the baitwell all the time and that one works the best out of the three. I didn't get much water in, but with them plugged, I can store paperwork in them. I picked up a few more 5/8" plugs for the back, stop over and I'll give you one for the livewell you want to keep sealed. You can replace valves, but plugging is the only way you are going to competely eliminate any seepage.

Plano 3730's and 3731's are sized for Musky related gear, the 3731 being one open bin for oversized items like reels, spools etc., and the 3730 with deep rows for storing lures.

I'm glad you asked, because I was looking at mine and scratching my head because I also use my livewell for storage. If I fish for fish to eat, I take a cooler with ice in it.
Recirculate it is.
Steve, what about the front 'cooler' drain hole? Does water back up in there unless you plug it?

The front cooler drains into the bottom of the boat and has to be bilged out. Thank you to all that have replied to this tread.

Beav,

The boat would have to be full of water. I'd doubt that's a likely scenario.

I have a bit older 690vs, a '95. I only have fill and empty levers for options on the livewells, no recirculate. The port side livewell (larger one) I have plugged and it stays dry. The smaller starboard one, even with every hole (top and bottom) inside and the outside hole plugged, I still get a little water in there, but it doesn't come in fast enough that if I sat and watched it you could see. Any ideas? The other thing that happens is I get a semicircle of wet carpet centered at the inside front corner of that livewell, but never any water under the floor to bilge out. Ranger's only suggestion was that it might be the speedometer tube that runs from behind the console and toward the back has a break in it and water coming in the tube is running down under the carpet. But from his description of where the tube runs it doesn't even run out that way or along the floor. Any thoughts on this from someone who may have experienced something similar? Thanks
