Have people been loosing fish with the newer batches of 3/0 35656BR mustads?
I have some you could bend out with your fingers!

Never had a problem. Never lost a fish that got hooks on a Weagle that I can remember. I caught a chunky 48 incher on the 8 inch Weagle. Had the drag tighter than I should have, and the fish took a couple runs with me being a little too slow in the thumb bar. I was praying the hooks didn't bend out, but they were fine. I think there was a tine or two slightly bent out on the hooks, but that could have happened in the net as far as I know. You might want to back off just a tiny bit on the drag or make sure you're ready to free spool, but I wouldn't worry about the hooks bending out on you.

Make sure you don’t have the Mustad 35647 hook. It is the same as the 35656BR but much thinner. I Picked up some of the 35647 by mistake at Gander mtn. They look the same but are nowhere near as strong as the 35656.

Put eagle claws or VMCs on it. I can't believe anyone uses the small mustads. The 7/0s are fine, but the 3/0 wide gap that the shallow invader, phantoms, weagle etc.... use, man!!!!!!!! No thanks I'll use a hook I cant pinch flat with my fingers!

I actually like those hooks. Never had any issues. They do hook up well being thin. If you don't horse the fish and freespool, I have never had one straighten out except for in the net. I think they are easier on the fish too as far as damage and releasing. I even use them for suckers and trolling baits.

??? I have some right here and they are very stout IMO. Can't bend mine with my fingers at all. The wire diameter on the 3/0 35656BR is 0.0695 (1.76mm). Just an FYI the 6/0 3551 Mustads are 0.0695 (1.76mm) diameter too.

I've even bent the 7/0s, Fish with soft hooks if you want!

Here are the last two fish of the season, on suckers on those hooks. I have seen the difference between a 4x hook and a thin wire hook in my hooking percentages. I have seen too many fish just let go of a bait with 4x hooks on it that had never been hooked.

This is the first time I have ever heard a complaint about the hooks on the Weagle. If I heard complaints I would have made a change.

Lots of fish, and plenty of big ones, have been caught on Weagles using those hooks so I guess I don't see an issue with them. Those are the same hooks on a Phantom also...plenty of fish caught on those baits without issue as well.

Personal preference I guess, but results speak for themselves. Until I see an issue with the hooks I will stick with them.

What I should have wrote was that I was finding inconsistentencies in Mustad's batches of the regular Weagle hooks of late. So I was wondering if it was resulting in people losing fish, not knocking Baldy's choice of hook at ALL! Love the hook!!!
