Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I would say a 6 gallon if you are planning on trolling for 10 hours...but much of that is dependent on the throttle setting you need to have the motor at in order to troll the way you prefer. Although it is a 1969 vintage (black bottom, white top, black lettering/logo) it will perform like a champ....those motors were bullet proof when taken care of and although the age is 40 years, it is a small enough engine that it sips the gas, and is very smooth (I'm guessing a 2 cylinder yet or was that a 1 cylinder?)
If the motor is at idle for the majority of your trolling, I would bet you might be able to sneak by with a 3 gallon tank without too much issue. I know when I've taken trips to canada where we are out and running a kicker for the majority of the time (probably around 9 hours or so each day) and we were able to fill up a 3 gallon tank every other day....and that was a 6hp johnson 1986 vintage, but basically the same design all the way through...
The more I think of it, I'm betting a 3 gallon tank is possible without too much trouble...
